Mobil 1 V-Twin is good oil. Sometimes kinda hard to find, though. I think O'Reilly's usually stocks it and its cheaper then HD Syn. |

After reading countless threads here and other forums I have come to one conclusion: Oil is like beer, pizza and sex. It is all ok, just some is better than others and any is good enough. I use Amsoil. |

Can't find the Mobil One V twin. I use Mobil One 15W50 Extended. Bike seems to run better with it than with the Syn. |

I've been running the Mobil 1 15-50 highest life oil (in its various naming incarnations) in all our machines - except our ludicrously oil hungry Blasts (where it's just a waste since the oil just doesn't stick around!). Honestly, I'm of the opinion that as long as you HAVE oil where you're supposed to have it, you're fine. I like a decent Synth since I run a longer oil change interval that way. The oil thing is mainly religious. On your deathbed, even if you've spent the bulk of your life without active participation in a religion, you may wind up doing some last minute handshake to try and make the next world a better place for you. For me, oil selection is mostly about a worst case scenario. Yeah, you should probably stay away from the $.97 / qt dollar store oil (and its alleged cockroach shell fragments) but seriously, any oil is better than no oil. Funny Story: A friend was helping me split a race motor a number of years ago. "Wow, Saro, I can't believe how good this gearbox looks. Like brand new! You must change the oil after every day at the track." Dude, same oil (Castrol GTX 30w) for 2.5 years (20-30 long, hard track & race days / year) in the gearbox.... Believe what you will. Whatever you believe, just make sure you ain't outta oil. -Saro |

I use whatever the shop mechanic puts in. If I bring it to Harley they use Harley Syn3. If I bring it to the local independent (who generally does a better job), he uses Amsoil. If I do it myself, I generally use Golden Spectro. Doesn't matter, never noticed any difference in performance or oil use no matter what I used. |

I run the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 in both bikes (engine and primary). No complaints through ~30000 miles. The local Murray's carries it around here and it's the same price as the HD synthetic. |

Walmart usualy has Mobil 1 synth. Air cooled V-Twin oil on the shelf. Still spendy but I use it and can get it 365 days of the year.. It Sucks if ya need oil on sunday or monday and try to get HD Syn.3. Most Bike shops are closed those days... No complaints with Mobil 1. And I still haven't figured out who manufactures HD's oil anyhow... I know they aren't an oil company so they have someone elses oil in there labeled bottles. |

I've heard that Mobil V-twin oil is the same as Harley oil, Mobil makes it. For what its worth. |

"I've heard that Mobil V-twin oil is the same as Harley oil, Mobil makes it. For what its worth." That's not what I heard. From what I understand Hugo Chavez makes the Syn3 and it's a Group III based oil. Mobil 1 -twin is a Group IV based oil. I would choose the Mobil1 Vtwin over the Syn3. |

I used mobil 1 V-twin in my 04 xb9s while I was in california, then couldn't find it anywhere in pittsburgh and ended up ordering the amsoil 20w50 cycle oil. Both worked very well for me. On the mobil 1, the bike saw some long (hard) rides in 90+ degree heat and never had any problems. Of course, as always, YMMV. |
