Battery went dead last week after one week of ownership. Rode the bike every day that week and put on 600 miles. Most of the riding is stop and go to work but most trips are in the 20 mile range. I had to put it on my battery tender overnight to get it to full charge. Brought it to the dealer the next day and they said nothing was wrong with the battery or the charging system. They also said they could not find any shorts. I added a pigtail for my tender and use it every time I get home. I don't think the charging system can keep up with the draw. I think it is the fan that draws to much for to long. Battery almost went fully dead again after riding the bike on Sunday morning. I had made 3 short trips of less than 10 miles for each trip. The last trip was I sat in traffic for about 2 miles at a crawl. The battery was on the tender all night and had a full charge when I left the house. I got it started and rode the 30 miles home on the highway and kept the motor in the 3500 to 4500 RPM range the whole way home. When I shut it off in the garage and restarted it it did start but You could tell that it was not at full charge. Does any body else have these problems? Michael, Regardless of what the dealership said, there is definitely something wrong with one of the three things you mentioned. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON that your battery should go dead in that short a period of time. I've ridden mine in all sorts of traffic conditions, it has even sat in the garage with the battery connected for a month unused and it started right up. Find another dealership, or if you must go back to that one, tell them diplomatically that they're full of shit and you want it fixed. Bryan | ||

I had the same kind of problem when my M2 was a year old; where it would work for a few rides and it would be dead. It would run all day long without a hitch if I did not turn it off. I replaced the battery and that did not help. I figured out it was the voltage regulator. Replaced it and now I have been using the same battery for over 3 years. I also agree with Darthane. | ||

Michael: The dealership IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SORTING THE ISSUE OUT. That is the first time I hyave heard that on an XB. Please note, it is NOT NORMAL. Any one who tells you to "just ignore it, it'll go away" should be infomred they are as full of shit as a Xmas goose. Erik Buell (and I can not OFFICIALLY speak for or represent him) would go ballistic. ACTION: Politely ask the dealer to investigte, determine the problem and fix it. If they can't, POLITELY suggest they call S.P.O.C., there are a weatlh of folks with the expereience and knowledge to get you fixed up qickly, who are just WAITING to support your dealer with up to the minute XB Tech info. Court (who's own battery is growing weak as I enter my twilight years in New York City)  Need Henrik and I to test ride this XB? | ||

Would that be the dealership you and I know *so* well Court?? If that's the case, all I can say is: "I'm really sorry for you Michael." On the other hand, that was the dealership that got me going on wrenching my own - simply had to  I'd think voltage regulator also. Henrik | ||

The one I am thinking of is dishonest, I think the one Henrik is talking about is incompetent. I have a low tolerance for both, among the two, I'd choose the idiot over the liar. Given a full range of chices, I'd choose Henrik. | ||

Michael; I wasn't thinking of Hempstead - although I haven't heard anything good about them either ... and I know people who used to work there and left to open their own shop; Rolling Thunder Cycles in Hempstead. Great, knowledgeable, honest people at Rolling Thunder. I used to have all the work on my Shovel done there (less work necessary than you'd think ) Henrik | ||

The other HD's on Long Island are not any better. I use Rosa's Cycle in Huntington for my 2000 Road King. I picked up my Road King at Suffolk HD. It has not been back since the 1000 mile service and it now has 41,000 miles on it. I hope to be doing all the wenching on the Buell. I will be calling the dealer to set up a time to check the XB. Any updates, Rkc? A buddy of mine with a Katana 600 just called me up, he's having the exact same problem. He wanted to know where to buy a battery, I told him not to buy one until we kow that's the problem. I'm hoping to get over there this week to check a couple things, but probably won't until the weekend. I'm thinking his is a voltage regulator problem as well. | ||
