Just rode the XB12R for the 1st time in a couple of months, and noticed a squeak similar to the throttle opening, and at the same time as the throttle opening. Seems to be coming from under the air box as well.
Going to take a look under the airbox later, any one else had/heard of this before?

yes I've go it too. seems like it was/is worse when the engine is cold. I haven't really heard it the last 3 months or so but I really heard it back in Dec and Jan, or maybe I've just got used to it.

please please please correct me if i'm wrong, i do not know what the throttle setup on these is like, but on cars the butterfly gets carboned up and can make a similar squeak, check for a black sooty buildup on and around the throttle plate. as long as there is not a special coating on these throttle bodies use a toothbrush and carb-cleaner to remove the buildup. hope it helps.

Throttle body and plate are still clean from when I did remove the carbon and gummy deposits off at the 10k service.
Kind of sounds like an air sucking type squeak, raises and lowers with engine rpm, shouldn't be intake seals at less than 15k.
I hope.

There is no reason to over think this.

The Gerbil will squeak when you pull his tail. That way you know he understands you want to go faster... : )

look for vac leaks. any respectable auto garage can easily use a smoke machine to check for leaks, if not, spray carb cleaner around hoses, boots, gaskets and seals. one at a time and listen for an rpm change.

Not sure if its the same "squeak" anyone else is hearing but i have noticed that i can hear the air whistling by the butterfly at very small throttle angles since installing an open airbox kit. Kinda cool sounding really, reminds me of a supercharger... too bad its not audible away from the bike!

I would have to agree with corporate monkey on this, so long as theres no change in performance, ie sputter/stalling/wide open throttle symptom then I'd not put much more thought into it.

My bike has 22k miles, and all sorts of unique sounds, but I don't worry about it unless it affects the operation of the bike.

Good luck on the hunt
