Question guys/gals. I have an 08' xb12s with 400 miles on it. It has been running perfectly thus far, this past saturday I got a tank of premium (93 octane) at a local QT here in ATL. Within a mile the check engine light came on, started knocking, almost stalled out (had to crack open the throttle a bit to keep it running), condensation/watery fuel type mixture started dripping out of the overflow tube, idling rough and speratically, and so on. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow to check it out but wanted some heads up. I drained the fuel out, refilled with BP 93 octane this morning and same issues. What can I expect to hear, will there be any damage to the engine? thanks for any info. and help. |

did you make the gas station aware that they had bad gas? reason i ask is a friends wife got a bad tank of gas from a local speedway. she tolled them about it and had to have her van towed and they paid for all of the repairs. |

Yeah man I spoke to the store manager, called the division of fuels and measures at the Dept. of Agriculture and am having them test the quality of the gas, contacted QT's corporate office, sent in a customer feedback via they're website online..... I tried to cover all the bases incase it is a fuel related issue. |

they did the same thing with a woman that works here's 300C. her and others had bad fuel. she had her system flushed and such, but one of the others ended up needing a new fuel pump also. the gas station ended up covering it all. |

yeah NR good news is it was QT, National chain with a gasoline guarantee. I know if anything with the fuel system is jacked up they will cover it. We will see. |

How do you fill up the tank? If you put in more than that ring that you see when peering into the filler opening, you may be overfilling it. When that happens, at least on my XB9R (Ca. version), the check engine light comes on, it starts running intermittently, wants to stall and makes driveability fairly hazardous for about a mile or so. After that all the bad symptoms go away and things return to normal. But if yours doesn't normalize after a couple miles, then what you did seems prudent as it could be due to contaminated fuel. |

Sparky, I always fill to the lower opening. But that is a good point for any guys/gals new to Buells, I have known a few guys who would fill to the cap and that is not good. |

At work I see lots of bad gas tickets. Drain the tank, flush the lines, replace the filter, top her off with good stuff and off they go! |

Jeffro it was the QT off of the GA 400 Northridge exit off Dunwoody Place. I am waiting to hear back from the division of fuels and measures on they're test but had the bike to the dealership and they said it was non fuel related issues. So the gas may not have been the problem, but alot of people have said it is best to stick with a station like BP that actually is they're own supplier rather than a place like QT that buys the best price gas they can find at the time which may lead to a lesser quality product. |
