I have a catch can on my XB12R and on the can cans breather tube a small K&N type filter on it. I was at a stop light yesterday and noticed that I had smoke coming out of it. I have never noticed this before. I thought that maybe it was getting too hot, but I can touch it bare handed and it actually cool. I have it mounted here...

I would change the location away from the hot engine. (just to play it safe) |

Where might be a better location? It seems hot everywhere, and even if I run it to the back the hose has got the travel past all the meaty engine.. |

Yes its normal, normally the smoke fumes are consumed by the engine its self when the breather hoses are fed into the airbox assembly. |

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. I was thinking that just maybe something was starting to act up...cant believe I've got just over 10k on the bike and never noticed it before...Duhhhh., Ive got one more quick question..I have the original clutch & cable, and noticed about the same time as the smoke thing, that it is all the sudden more diff. to pull in. When I pull it, I almost feel like it catches on something . Nothing real bad, more curious as to what the clutch would feel like if it were going out..symtoms? The bike was just in about 200 miles ago for the 10k service, I checked the cable itself and it looks to be fine, no frays and greased. |

Is it smoke or steam?? If its steam you motor is probaly venting out alot of H2o that was in the motor. Which is a good thing. Also at first you might want to drain the can a little more frequently. (Message edited by sgthigg on April 30, 2008) |

Steam is good - smoke, not. |

Poke it through the bracket the oil cooler is attached to. It will sit there and you wont see the steam. Mine seems to work fine there. |

Yeah, I suppose it is steam. Some of what comes out of my catch can is water "moisture". Any thoughts about the clutch? |

your bike has 10k on it? my clutch cable broke around 15k, it probably needs to be replaced. |

I'd replace that clutch cable. Mine did the same thing. I just kept using it until it broke. In traffic. The end of the cable flew off. Bounced off a car (good thing they didn't hear it due to the loud exhaust) and I had to push it home (No clutch) The new cable comes with a plastic coating around it and it's easier to pull. |
