Sorry guys, I realise that this is not strictly XB related but here goes. It looks like I'm going to be in San Diego for a couple of weeks in June/July and I'd like to know if there is a circuit nearby where I could do a trackday (or two)? I'll need to hire a bike too - preferably an XB but I'll take second best eg. an MV. I reckon Laguna Seca is too far to travel too right? Thanks Surveyor Dublin IRELAND |

The closest is Willow Springs, about 3 hours away. |

Tons of go-cart tracks that you can race 50-80cc bikes out there. I used to race with these guys. Even raced against John Hopkins when he was a kid. If you are interested, call Al Lyons, the head of the group and ask if you can hook up on a bike. http://www.racecmrra.com/

There is also world class street riding out there. Ask Al at American Sportbike about Palomar Mountain. |

if you decide not to hit willow springs Palomar mtn is perfect. I just got back from an awesome ride up there. The southgrade is about 7 miles of really tight decreasing radius turns with no (pretty much) chance for cars to get in the way. There are no roads that intersect this ride. The east grade is also fun but has grooves and bumps with some gravel that could surprise you... I usually just go up and down the south grade... |

I'd hit Angeles Crest too if you have a rental bike, that is a classic California ride. So are the roads around Malibu canyon. There's also the mountain roads going over to Palm Springs. Lot's of good stuff within a couple of hours of San Diego. |

From the other thread: California Speedway (Fontana) http://www.fastrackriders.com are the usual track day operators. Awesome facility but a bit pricey (high overhead costs - not Fastrack but the race track itself) Willow Springs (Rosamond) Official site http://www.wsmcracing.com/ Willow Springs Motorcycle Racing discussion site (unofficial) http://www.ducatitech.com/bbs Post up there as a newbie. It's not as hostile as the typical sportbike board. We have a few folks coming out to race once or twice a year. Also, just this year an operator started renting 250cc Ninja for the Ninja spec class for $250 per day - all inclusive (tires and fuel) - heck, your racing license might transfer and if nothing else, the race practice day (Saturday) - all you need is a license to get out and practice. CHEAP track day that way. Check first to make certain your license transfers and you don't have to take new racer school. http://www.RaceBikeRentals.com Many track day operations at Willow that offer track days. WSMC is the only regular racing organization there. Laguna might be too far - about 8 hour drive from Sandy Eggo. It is obscenely expensive and the noise restrictions are oppressive. For the length of that drive, there's Las Vegas, Spring Mountain (Pahrump) and Reno Fernley. Fastrack Riders also do a few days in Vegas. |

Palomar Mountain is one of my favorite spots. Heres a bit of info on Palomar Mnt for those who are wondering. It is a public road and yes it is patroled by the Hwy Ptrl. Most of the time they just watch for the guys going well over the limit. They usually over look the 10MPH over the limit...Usually. http://www.musclecross.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id= 14 http://www.musclecross.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id= 13 (Message edited by wantxbr on April 30, 2008) |
