That would seem to defy all logic.....? I agree, just posting what I've heard from more than one person. I once ran a tank non-stop through my bike in 5th gear at 55 mph in stock trim. It got 64 mpg. I get similar results. I don't check my milage often, but when I first put the Spec Ops pipe on (before any ECM and intake mods), I managed to average 66 mpg for a tank when doing a trip with some pretty easy, mostly 55-60mph riding. On my way to MBV, with the same pipe, K&N, open air box and remapped ECM, I managed to average 65 mpg for the only tank I bothered to calculate. Beating on it in Suches netted much less - maybe low 40's. Around home (not quite as twisty as Suches) I get about 50 every time. But, being totally impressed and humbled by GM's fuel management engineering capabilities built into a certain LeMans Blue Corvette C6 (mine), that allows one to do dumb things like running 87 in a Corvette without harm, just a little less power and response mind you, I feel that in order to make running on less than 91 octane with an otherwise mechanically stock Buell, a knock sensor would have to be incorporated into the engine control algorithm. This is not a trivial nor cheap endeavor. My car (a supercharged Cobalt SS) supposedly has the same technology. I ran 87 for the first few months when I got it and it was fine. I everntually switched to 92-93 and noticed a bit more umph, but otherwise it ran just the same. Recently, I tried switching back to 87, and noticed a significant drop in mileage (went from 27 to 24). I may try again just to see if it was fluke thing, though. |

Hogs That thing you posted has been circulating the internet for ages. It's right up there with the missing kid story, or the kidney thieves etc.... My Motorcycle and my wife's Mini Cooper are our gas savers. My other vehicle sucks, but it's a Jeep on 37s. Still, I find it very funny that My jeep gets better gas mileage than the majority of non modified SUVs and it's way cooler But then, my work commute is only 3.6 miles

The only problem I have with the "fill up in the morning" theory is...I've been in caves. Caves (and the underground in general) remain a constant temperature, I want to say its like 63 degrees or something. Regardless of time of day or season - you get below the frost line (usually 2 or 3 feet), ground temp is ground temp. |

I think it's 55 degrees underground where I am. I'm sure it has a lot to do with where you're located, but you're right - it stays the same year round. |

I think the buell's fuel consumption is fairly good given the engine size, but if you think your fuel price is bad in the UK we are already at current exchange rates almost up to ten yes ten of your AMERICAN DOLLARS |

Check www.snopes.com and search for gas mileage. That info has been around for many moons. I think since the gas crunch of the eighties. Now it is in E-mail form. A little different also. |
