Hy, i'm owner of xb12scg lightning year 2008. I have about 700 miles. This weekend i went for a ride. The oil level was good before i take the ride. After about 300 miles on a gas station i stars engine and the oil lamp turned on and the engine stopped. Where the hell did all the oil went in 300 miles, but before that i made 700 miles and everything was well.

How serious is when the oil lamp turns on? And one more thing, i bought and filled my bike with castrol 15W50 - is this oil ok?

My 2008 XB12R is having the exact same problem. I lost almost two quarts in roughly the same amount of miles and the bike died and wouldn't start again. I took it to the dealer....seems like there are a lot of us out there with the same problem.

The oil could be the issue itself. If it's car oil change it out as fast as possible. The 15w50 weight is incorrect also.

You need, Harley Davidson 20w50 SYN3 or
CF,CF-4 CG-4 or CH-4 DIESEL oil in weights 20w50, 15w40 or 10w40.(directly from the Buell service manual).

There is a big debate here on oiling so I know I will be challenged. With that said I use HD Syn3 20w50 only, and have never had any issues.

something i found on sea page

(MCV) is recommended for Harley-Davidson, Buell, Victory, Ducati, BMW, Aprilla and Triumph motorcycles calling for a 15W-50 or 20W-50 viscosity, providing superior protection in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases.

http://www.performanceoiltechnology.com/mcf.htm

i needed to came home - that happened 10 miles from my home. And the next thing i'm going to do is to take my bike to dealer (anyway i have 1000 miles first service)

I wonder what the HD oil actually is. I wonder who made it for them?

It might be nothing special, other than HD tested it and found it to live up to the requirements of the engine.
