http://www.alsacorp.com Check out their Killer Cans. Spray on chrome. Looks like just the thing, at a reasonable cost, though I can't find the temperature restraints. Just thought some of you R guys might be interested. ~SM |

"Few bucks"? I thought the HID's were over $200? A near 50% savings would be worth a look , if it indeed worked. Also, I doubt you need their basecoat, and the clearcoat is optional. The chrome alone is only $45. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on April 25, 2008) |

I bought the HID setup with the slim ballasts for BOTH low & high beams for exactly $200, shipped. You can get get a single for ~$100. |

alsa has sent my friends and i some products to use on some of the customs we built. they sent us some of the chrome a couple years ago. it works pretty good. well atleast what we got. the stuff we used was ment to be done with a spray gun instead of the rattle cans that you are talking about. the bottle they sent us should have cost over a grand and it was not very big. i cant remember how many ounce. |

Yeah, I saw that system on their site also. Very pricey, but looked like it was more for commercial operations. ~SM |

i called alscorp, the CS rep stated it is rated for up to 250 deg F, but he also said he has heard of customers using it for HL Reflectors with success. |

Swordsman - I don't think that anything short of a real metal reflector insert for the housings will stand up to the heat of the halogen bulbs... The way to go at present is to just get a new/replacement headlight housing and go HID. Easy. No waiting for a "solution". And they're brighter anyway. |

Yeah, definitely true. But when you hear about people using aluminum foil to get by, well, obviously some people need cheaper alternatives. Like I said, just something I ran across that looked interesting. They had an ad in this month's Popular Science. ~SM |

Yep, aluminum foil and polished oven tape have worked for some of us. We are in agreement. It's just that HID fixes [I believe] the degradation problem AND gives us all the light we wish we had in the first place. Shop around and it costs no more than all the carbon fiber and farkles we add or change... |

Hehe... farkels... I love that word. It's like sparkly farts. Or maybe smelly sparkles. Either way, a fun word to say! ~SM |

Look in this thread, several options. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/314827.html?1208352757 I got mine from here: www.xenonrider.com They were on sale when I bought them. If you call them and tell them that they gave me a deal on them, maybe they'll match the price they gave me. |

You're welcome. You S to R convert guys can even get a fata$$ 1" thick ballast in there (ECM under seat = more room above the headlights). Glad the slim ballasts worked out for you. I was wondering since I hadn't heard after that thread died out. I'm loving my HID's but now I have the opposite problem; they're too bright and pissing off motorists at night! I think I'll stick with my present problem though. |

I still like the idea of a high quality specular optically correct metal. I'm not a plastic sorta guy . . |

Have mounted the car version of the HID ballasts undr the front fairing so they swing in the breeeze to cool them down. Cant see them unless you look for them. HID are illegal here unless you have an autolevelling system in your vehicle. |

No spoons - I bought two hi-beam light housings when I put my R front end together. They're pointed at the ground 10 feet in front of the bike and still light up everything in front of me like daylight for at least 50 yds. There's a street near my house where there's a stop sign every block for five blocks, and I light up the signs all the way down the street at the very first intersection. Thankfully I kept the hi/lo beam switch in the circuit so I can at least turn one off when I get flashed, but it's still pretty darn bright. |
