Just curious, I have had my 08' xb12s for about 10 days now. Traded in my 06' cbr600rr for it and as we all know there is a bit of a difference between the sound of these bikes. I notice while at speed there is a "flutter" noise coming from the engine that is best described as a plastic grocery bag that is stuck to the grille of your car flapping in the wind (if that makes sense). It is not present at idle only under load or when rolling on the throttle. Just curious if this is inherent to the V-twins and Buells. Thanks in advance. |

Coming from a GSXR onto a Buell there are a lot of noises that you have to get use to. Just make sure your lower cover is tight and your oil level is proper. (Once you modify your exhaust you will not have this problem!) |

Yeah, nature of the beast in these engines is to make some mechanical noise. It's normal. |

This reminded me, I have noticed a hollow clunk coming from the motor when idleing while cold. Only makes the noise when the engine is cold, and only when idleing. Cant hear it when moving. Normal noise for the engine to make? |

Hmm... my primary chain was making a clunk when it was a bit loose. Idle was letting it slap something inside. I never could hear it when I was moving. Maybe the same thing? Adjusting it did the trick, haven't heard the clunk since. ~SM |

That DOES remind me though... the other day, I had the bike cranked and warming while I finished putting on my gloves and helmet. Id had been running for 2 or three minutes when suddenly there was a vzzzzzzzzzzzzzz-thunk! Never heard that sound before, or since, but it was very distinguishable, and sounded like a taught cable sliding over something, followed by a heavy metal-on-metal collision. The bike was of course in neutral. What the hell could that have been??? ~SM |
