I was headed south on I-95 doing 70mphheaded for my girlfriends place for the evening. And i get passed by a guy on a Gixxer who was doing well over 100! well I see he gets off at the exit I'm headed for. Well way before he ever got to the exit ramp, I see his brake lamp light up. I didn't expect to catch up on him like I did. But the exit ramp it composed of 3 90* right turns that pretty much equal 1 left turn. I felt the feelers clicking and sparking the asphalt as I went by him just as he did me just moments before. Which put me ahead of him and far enough away from the turns that I was slowing down for the approaching yellow light. I stopped my bike slow and smooth and the guy comes flying up and ham-fisting the brake. When his ass end hits the pavement his visor went up and I thought he was gonna fight me or something. because all I heard from inside his noodle bucket was him yelling "What the ----..." Well when his visor went up he was laughing. "Yo boy you scared the shit outta me. That was tight, how can I do that?" "Trade your bike in for a Buell, and get your knee down." He nodded, and turned down a side road. | ||

I get asked all the time what my top speed is. I tell em top speed is for schmucks. Leanin is livin. they seem to not have anything to say about that. Squid is great when deep fried.  | ||

Right on! Isn't that the most satisfying feeling on the planet?? Gotta LOVE IT!! I have never bad mouthed any bike. But I sure get alot of it from squids about Buells, until we ride that is. Sure, They'll get me in the straights a little, but give me real world corners and curves and I can scare the living hell out of them. My standard comment after schooling a squid is "You'll buy a Buell when you grow up" LOL. | ||

Erik Buell has been quoted saying that his bikes aren't "for guys that want to scare themselves, they're for guys that want to ride" (or something similar). It's a natural progression that repeats itself frequently: Mcsquidly 600 needs more, but doesn't know what he needs more of, so he buys a literbike or a 'Busa. After a few years of stupid-power, he realizes that he likes throttle response, but he doesn't want to go illegal fast to have it, so he picks up a Cruiser. Same throttle response, but he hates the lack of any top-end or handling, and that's where Erik steps in. | ||

I ride with two guys that have gixxers, one 600 the other 1000. When we take a break from the ride, they both are complaining about their bikes. We Buell riders have acceleration from turn to turn or off the line and they have speed. Both say in order to catch up with us; they usually must achieve speeds of 130 plus when they can or fall further behind. Bill with the 1000 went and looked at the new 1125r and stood there drooling and dreamy!! But he is going to try to mod his bike starting with gear/sprocket change. Most street riders make the mistake that SPEED=ACCELERATION. When they ride with a Buell rider they will shortly learn that they don’t. Same goes with HP vs. TQ High TQ is that raw "fast" feel and what gets your butt out of the whole quicker!!!. But everyone thinks high HP numbers is the end all be all. | ||

A guy on a Gixxer 1000 pulls up next to me at a red light while I was riding home from work Monday evening. Mind you that traffic is heavy and that is not the time to play cat and mouse. He nudges up ahead of me a bit within an inch or two of the car in front of us. Naturally he starts gunning the engine and keeps looking back at me in an effort to provoke me. When the light turns green and we begin to roll he takes off and cuts off the car in the left lane (we were in the right lane) and finds himself trapped. I rolled by nice and easy with the flow of traffic and there he goes splitting the lane after nearly stalling the thing out. I let him go and pull up right next to him at the next red shaking my head. He asks what my problem is and I tell him the way he rides is the problem and that he's a poster child for any preconceived notions that people have about those that ride bikes - too much bike and not enough experience. He just turned, didn't give me a second look and went on his merry way very slowly as I turned right. | ||

Irideabuell; great job and great post. We (riders) really should police our own. My wife and coworker remind me every week that they read about another biker that goes down and some don't get back up. Last week when I was riding there was a group of rice rockets racing up the canyon road, while maneuvering the canyon roads they would come upon a car. These guys would pass the car in a blind turn on the inside while traveling on the yellow line. They would force the traffic on both sides of the two lane road to move aside. This road has a several hundred foot drop and I am afraid for the car on the outside that has to move towards the edge of this cliff to avoid hitting these riders. What if the driver of the car makes a mistake in their judgment of the road and he/she and their family end up going over? CHP got these guys!! Again, great job! I've never been provocted on the Buell. I was provocted once when I first had my harley by two kids on some older sportbikes. They stopped behind me at a light, and the one rolled up next to me, with my Harley thumping away, and said, "Wanna go?" I just looked at him like he was retarded and shook my head "no". Turns out we were all heading in the same direction, and I we crossed paths a number of times as we chose different streets. Turns out while I was out enjoying my ride, they had found a nice patch of new pavement and decided their time was best spent doing burnouts. | ||

I've been meaning to post this up for opinions. I was at a 2 lane stop light on an over pass, and did not even notice this white BMW next to me. The light turns green and I go, not fast or anything, but then I see out of the corner of my eye the BMW gun it on the right side of me. we were both going straight through and I just without thinking got on it to stay in front of him. I do not believe it was a competition thing, I just felt unsafe I guess. I then came to my senses after power wheeling it in 2nd, and slowed to let him pass. I was certainly not doing it to show off or anything it was just instinct, but was it right or wrong? | ||

Straight road, no traffic ahead, why not. That what the bike is made for. It is when you are in traffic that it becomes TO dangerous. Everyone has gotten on their bike here and there. Rubber side down  | ||

I believe from time to time we all like to experience our bikes to their fullest. The difference between the ones that you see doing it all the time and the ones that don’t is maturity mostly due to “aging”. On occasion I enjoy hammering my bike, but I pick the time and place. I make sure I am not jeopardizing me or anyone else. I personally feel it is wrong if I may have caused any inconvenience to another vehicle, otherwise it’s only wrong if you get caught by the police. Again, this is my opinion and is subject to change when a better one comes along. | ||

I much prefer to think of things as sparring matches rather than fights. A few years back I wound up sparring with some guy on Angeles Crest Highway. He was on a stripped down 600 I4. I was on my FXD (not lowered or anything). Every couple of miles, whoever was leading would wave the other by. We made decent progress down the hill this way. It was fun and friendly. In the end he was a bit shocked that some dude on a Harley was staying with him. He kept staring as we cruised down the straight section where he turned onto the freeway and I into the Shell station. i'm a youngin. i love the wheelies, i love the speed, shit i love doing 100 mph with no wheels on the ground. sure i take risks. to me its worth the exitement. but even i know not to mess around in traffic and out others at risk. these guys on there gsxrs and cbr's need to figure out when its ok to mess around and when its not. | ||

Not elitist at all, just truth from experience. A Squid is any as*hole doing unsafe things with others around like peds and traffic, no matter what bike, commonly seen in flip-flops and shorts. And from my experience most ride gixxers and cbrs, and most are in there early 20s. Now Hooligans and Squids should not be mistaken for one another. A Squid is just dangerous, a Hooligan is more calculating. Most Buell riders are Hooligans. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. | ||

Now, I must add that I have been riding since I could walk, and WAS a Squid in my 20s. And I had to learn the hard way that it isn't cool at all to be a Squid. A few tickets and crashes, torn up mint bikes, and allot of pain taught me that lesson. That's why I am so critical of Squids. You know the ex-smoker is the worst type to light up around. LOL With that said, I will unleash a butt load of Hooligan on any Squid. I just won't do it in traffic or around peds. Still doesn't make me elitist, just experienced. Hammer, I kind of see your point but I think you are using the wrong word. Is it elitist to take a bike perceived to have less power, a Buell, and school a more powerful bike, HondSuziKawi? Umm, not to go all college on you all, but isn't "elite" a term that means better than, superior, etc? Bluntly put, I ride a XB12R for a reason, I qualify as a hooligan, and squids are dumb@#$%s who make me look bad and endanger others with their dumb@#$% stunts. Yeah we were all young once but that isn't an excuse.  Do I ride fast? Heck yeah -- but I use my blinker in traffic and I don't scare the cagers. When they aren't around is when to have your fun -- then it's just your skin on the line. So do the squid (and the rest of us) a favor, tell them to stop being dumb@#$%s!  |
