I have an '05 XB12s. The clutch was extremely hard to pull! I was almost going to sell the bike because I couldn't ride for more than a few hours. I then asked Al from www.americansportbike.com for help. He pointed me in the right direction. NOW I HAVE A VERY EASY CLUTCH!!! Here is what I did; *Muller power clutch *New '06 and later clutch spring *and a New "sleeved" clutch cable I finally have clutch pull that is as light as my buddies sportbikes and my Thruxton (maybe even lighter) The entire job only took me about an hour to do. I was told that there would be only about a 30%-40% difference, but it feels like alot more than that. If you have a hard to pull clutch... There is an answer! Your were going to sell your bike because the clutch pull was to much for you after 2 hrs of riding?? I think these are in order for you also maybe...  I am glad you got it figured out . Al and his wife are good people. No doubt about it. Thanks for the review. | ||

geez, i have the levers cut down on my 9 so i can only use 2 fingers for the clutch and never thought of it being that hard. | ||

I don't find it that hard to pull actually. Makes my muscles stronger if anything.  | ||

I've only ridden one 05 S and thought it was a bit on the hard side but nothing to bad. Sounds to me whoever did your servicing didn't lube the cables. Or what Sgthigg posted. Thats great you have it all worked out now. (Message edited by wantxbr on April 21, 2008) | ||

I have pins in my left wrist an 4 plates in my left arm so I have some arthritis. I can deal with it, but after a few hours of constant shifting on the track or in the canyons my wrist and hand gets sore, stiff and tired. If you have an '06 or newer then you already have the new spring and cable, but on the '05 models or before they had a way stiffer spring and a junky cable. If you think you clutch pull is a little hard... try another bike (non harley) and you will see how hard the pull really is. I just posted this to help out those who don't think they are tough guys... and by the way I am willing to bet that my forearms are bigger than yours (from my clutch) HA HA HA | ||

Sorry, didnt know the whole scoop on your condition. I just couldnt resist.. I do agree, the clutch pull is a pretty deliberate when compared to other lines of motorcycles. | ||

Hey Semirgdj, i agree with you on the stiff clutch. Its a fact. I've had my hands get sore a couple times when i've been riding all day. I just picked up a Free Spirits soft clutch and i think i'm going to put it in within the next couple weeks. I cant wait to see the difference. Glad the new set up works for ya. | ||

I can empathise. I have arthrites in my left thumb saddle joint as a result of prior hand injury. I use the spring hand grip thing, but I still needed to get the soft clutch thing from Trojan (UK). It made my Uly and fiancee's Scg all day back road bikes. To adapt is not to wimp out, it is to thrive. | ||

i hope this is on topic, i spent some time improving my clutch feel last season as well. very happy with the results. question though since someone mentioned cable maintenance.. . with how our clutch cables are routed, is there any issue using a standard cable luber? the kind that clamps on and blasts the lubricant into the sleeve? i had my primary drained but wasn't sure if i'd see cable lube start dripping into the primary. silly question? silly worry? my cable needed maintenance, i went easy on the forced lubricant but it made me curious. | ||

Cable lube that require you to use an attachment tool is safe. It will clamp to the outer metal tip of your cable. However the newer cable with the internal sleeve i'm not too sure about, but I am looking into it today. Alittle lube may get into your primary but nothing that could cause harm. You only use enough to saturate the cable not fill it up. I dont use the the cable life tool, I use a lube called Dry Slide. It has a needle type attachment on the bottle and you just put the tip of the needle in the end of the cable an squeese. Never liked cable life cable lube. Typeone Use the attachment its safe to use. Harley calls for Lubit 8 a general purpose lubricant. So as long as the lube your using isn't corrosive to plastic your fine. Lamo I havn't used one on a Buell yet but I have one installed in my Dynaglide. The Clutchlite works great. IMO better than the Free Spirits and maybe a tad bit less effective as the Mueller. I like it best because its cheaper than the Mueller, and smoother action than the free spirits plus quicker and easier to install. | ||

Lubit 8 I found this to be the best cable lube that I have used. It makes a noticeable difference. | ||
