I can't believe it, an insurance company went out of its way to lower my costs... I just got a letter from Safeco insurance that they "reclassified" my motorcycle. I don't know what they reclassified to it to, but I cut my yearly rates by $300. They are now down to a more tolerable $462 a year. Keep in mind when I initially got the bike I got quotes up to $3k a year. Most didn't like my neighborhood, or they did really understand what a buell is. For once I am happy to get an insurance letter. |

Mine is $500.00/ year, full coverage and $500 deduct. I wonder what happened? Oh yeah, I'm over 50, no tickets (that count), married and, that is for both my 04' ST1300 and my 1125r. The ST is $242 and the 1125r is $258. Nice to be in this group. Later all. Neil S. |

Well I got the shaft. I was told $325.00 a year before I bought my bike THEN a letter shows up a week later saying they make a little Boo-Boo it's going up to $1300.00 a year! After all they said the XB12Stt is a racing bike, it must be...It has Number Plates! Needless to say I have a different insurance co now. Hell it's all a scam as far as I can tell if I had a xXB12Ss the rate IS $325.00. Same basic bike just no number plates. |

If that is what they are basing their rates on imagine what they would say too get out of a claim. |

state farm stated they dont even like to write motorcycles.. Statefarm will only write a moto policy with other coverage, such as a automobile, house, or umbrella policy. Since I do not own a car (love zipcar) I get hosed. They assume the bike is my daily transport, not just a weekend toy. |

HUH? I just went through state farm for House, Cars and Bikes all together and they saved me big money over my prior coverage... The Bike policies WERE a little higher, but the savings on everything else was so good I didn't care... I have found that your agent can make a big diff. SOmetimes they just don't know what they are doing, and even though you've been riding for years, they write the policy as if you have no experience ($1,500 a year ballpark) or screw something else up. I found a StateFarm agent who rides a Honda Valkyrie, so I'm sure that helps. PS- Bike policies are better coverage too, so I expected them to be a bit more expensive (Message edited by naustin on April 20, 2008) |

Hello all, just wanted to know if there are any problems with rates on a Uly, due to it's off road capabilities? Thanks, Dawg |

I use Sentry/Dairyland for both my XBs 9 and 12. Total of $850.00 a year for both fully covered with all the bells and whistles. Best and only good experience I have EVER had with an insurance company was last summer. I was traveling down 1-5 in the fast lane. A girl in a civic on a cell phone enters the highway and shoots over four lanes into my lane. Before I could blink I am scrapping the center concrete barrier at 65, bitch never saw me. Scary as hell, the semi driver behind me saw the whole thing and slowed with his hazards on to give me room. The damage to the bike was a lost bar-end mirror, damaged grip, shift lever, indicator, and a huge scratch on my MINT frame. All in all about $200.00 in damage. Fast forward 2 weeks. The claims adjuster shows up at my house, looks at the bike and asks how many miles, I say 8. He says 800? An I say 8000. He commented on how clean it was for 8k. He then looks over the bike and sees the scratch on the frame. At that point he decides that the company will write me a check for $1600.00 to fix the damage. My jaw dropped when he told me the amount. I said OK. That night I was thinking NO don't send me a check cause my rates will skyrocket. The next morning I called to have them cancel the check but they had already sent it. At that time I asked and they said it was a "No fault" incident and my rates would be fine. I said OK. Now the kicker and very best part. Two weeks later they call be and tell me my rates are going DOWN 10% because I am a good customer. Never thought it was possible to be happy with an insurer but I am very happy with Sentry/Dairyland, might be because they focus on bikes primarily, especially HD and Buell. |

i'm with dairyland too. and crashed a one week old 2006 xb12s last summer. i was going about 45 into a 15 mph corner, the rear wheel skipped a little. not sure if i hit sand or a break in the pavement, but it felt like the ass end moved over a couple feet. i got nervous and hit the rear brake rather than the throttle (first serious bike in a 10 years, i was a little out of practice). not sure if it was those stock dunlops, but as soon as i touched that rear brake, the bike stood up straight and i ran off the road. needed a new frame, bars, lower forks, swing arm, airbox, shifter, footpegs, some other stuff. just got my insurance bill for this year, same as last year. i like dairyland too. |
