Anyone else have this happen? After replacing lines, any ideas on how to prevent lines from rubbing together again?

Luckily it happened close to home, instead of the trips I've taken the last couple of weekends! I have quite a mess to clean up all the way down the bike including the rear tire!!!

Mine as a metal hose clip that holds them in place together at the point where they would normally touch. Mine came like that.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that.

On the "newer" models I believe I've seen a plastic clip that separates them. Mine rubbed through like yours due to my clutch cable routing, and I replaced them.

I tightened the fittings with a screwdriver handle inbetween the two lines to ensure a gap. I still had to bend the hard part of one line a bit to ensure that the gap was big enough.

I also noticed a re-design from my 2003 line that goes from the pump to the cooler, the hard part of the new line was much different than the original part.

Thanks for the info Spatten1. I'll look into the updates with the local HD/Buell parts department on Friday.

Thanks again!

Take a look at spark plug wire separators or look in J&P oil line Accessories they have Hose separators.

Happened to my nine, when I bought the kit it came with the plastic separator. When you buy the kit from the dealer it should come with the separator.

We lost a race at Texas World because the spacer there was missing, and the lines rubbed through. It was a tiny leak, but still.....

The stock spacer works well, and is simple, but any, including the illustrated rubber hose will work. I'd watch the rubber hose to make sure it didn't eventually rub through.

Mine came from the factory with a plastic separator between the two hoses. Now I know why they put it there.

The local hardware/Home Depot should/may have padded hose clamps, used to mount wire bundles to bulkheads, ect. Like the ones on my X-1 that the left side scoop mount to. Put one around each line, with the mounting tab in the middle. Small screw or bolt w/a nut, done.

Thanks for all of the ideas. Hopefully, someone else with a 2003 sees this and adds it to their list of initial "upgrades." Heading to HD/Buell now, to get/order the new lines.

I think your new lines will include the appropriate routing spacer. It's a kit, if memory serves.

They've cleaned up the oil lines for '08 (in addition to the Jiffy Tite fittings):

Anyone without the spacer should really do some of the suggestions that have been listed here, if not the new Buell kit.

Mine leaked oil down the muffler to the back tire. Luckily I had already finished my "spirited" riding for the day.
