Anyone who has seen Hammer blow by them like they were standing still will know what Glitch means when he says it is the "Indian not the arrow". Hammer passed Me & Damnut on the highway TWICE like we were standing still & then shot off well out of sight...We were well into tripple diggits.... I am still confussed on how that happened! |

Okay, a 12 owner speaking up, I like my 12 because it also has usable power, and to me is pretty smooth ( not I-4 smooth, but smooth) I came across a deal I couldn't pass up when I found mine (04 12r 6000 +/- miles, saddlebags, throttle lock and a few other upgrades) i now have 17000 smiles on it and it performs smoother and better with the more miles that are put on it. After doing the open airbox mod and doing my own hack job on the stock muffler, it has continued to be smooth above 2800 rpm and puts off just enough noise so I don't have to listen to the internals of the motor rattle around. Fast? fast enough, I haven't seen the top side as of yet, but Sanchez ran it on the Dyno Drag truck last year at Stone Mountain H-D and had consistent runs in the low 10's at 124 mph or better.... There are allot of happy 9 riders around just like there are allot of happy 12 riders around. I guess it ultimately comes down to what kinda deal you come across. I assure you , YOU WILL BE HAPPY with either one. Happy hunting Deadduck |

All things being equal - get a 12 BUT... If you can find a 9 needing a rebuild and you have the money, punch it out to 3 13/16 bore, making it 1169cc. Quicker revving, higher RPM, easier on the bottom end if you're running it hard and hitting rev limit every once in a while. Not cheap but makes for a VERY fun and interesting engine when compared to either the 9 or 12 |

I could have bought either one, I just liked the way the 9 "felt". I know that sounds kind of strange, but with it's lower primary ratio, and high bore/stroke ratio, it had a very linear pull from around 4000RPM to redline that the 12 just didn't have. That being said, the newer 12's do rev nearly as high as the 9's did, and pack a real whallop of midrange torque, that you will really notice if you are carrying a passenger. I'm working a deal to sell my 9r right now, not because I dont like it, (I love it), but because I want to buy a Uly, which will allow my gal to ride in comfort, which is not an option on the back of a Firebolt for a tall girl. And, that freakin Ulysses handles like a dream! Slaughter's suggestion is a really intriguing one, though. A bigger bore 9 would be very sweet, and I'm in the process of building a one lung version using Blast cases for a street tracker project. The thing I really like about the 12 is the fact that it has so much torque, it makes the bike even easier to ride; less shifting, less noise, less fuss. And I DO like a bike that seems to "disappear" under you! |

Slaughter: If you punch the 9 out to 12, can you use the stock ecm and injectors from the 9? Will it compensate? |

I could have been happy with either one personally -- it's a Buell. I bought my 12R because in '07 the 9R was a color red I didn't like that much and the 12R black and red was so DAMN SEXY! Since I was getting a bike that day it was a relatively easy choice -- though the Chery Bomb 12Scg was a pretty close second/third. Looking back, knowing what I know I would have probably gotten the Scg and traded for an R front, because that is what I like now. Had there only been a 9 available I would have been just fine. It is like choosing which flavor of awesome you want -- you can't go wrong! |

+2 slaughter. My plan from the beginning was to spend $1000 less on my 9 rather then a 12, pay it off sooner, put 30k miles on it, then rebuild it as an 1150 (haven't heard of the 1169... eeking every last inch out of the stock case huh?). I figured that maybe after 30k miles of practice, I might actually be good enough to be able to effectively use more then 75 HP more then 1% of the time. That'd be a fun bike, thats for sure. But this little XB is proving to be so solid and dependable, that I honestly expect the engine to still be sound at 40k or even 50k miles. Thats throwing a wrench in my plans... |
