When I am for example getting on the freeway, and I open her up, every once in a while I will get a rattle that sounds like it coming from somewhere down low but haven't looked yet.... Any Ideas where to start. |

Check for things like loose/missing fasteners on the chin fairing, muffler, windscreen, ect. Sidescoops come to mind. You might also try hitting various places on the frame, forks, rear subframe with the flat of your hand and see if you hear anything rattling. Belt guards, rear hugger? Hope this helps. Dave |

Could be pinging... Do you run premium only? Does it tend to happen at lower RPMs as compared to higher RPMs? |

I agree, it could be pinging. |

Pinging (detonation) was my second choice, but didn't really want to bring it up. If you are rolling in a big handful of throttle, from a lowish RPM (say, below 3,000), in fifth gear, pinging is a definite possibility. It would be heard and felt as a heavy, mechanical rattle. Very close to a diesel engine at idle. Loose body parts will be more "buzzy". |

Check your oil level. They do tend to burn a bit of oil. Norrie. |

Timing check? Until then, I would downshift to accelerate. Pinging or pre-ignition is bad. |

min pings when its hot out and i get on her off the line. I run premium only too. but if its cold out there is no problems! but once it warms up, especially with my stop and go traffic and I twist it all the way back, she will ping as well. so I let off and want to cry :-( and try to run at a lower RPM to cool her off for a bit. |

If the noise is coming from the primary side, it could be the front sprocket loosening up. Only way to tell is to pull the cover. |

Sounds like it is pinging. Mine will ping intermittently under hard throttle between 3000 and 4500 rpm when the temp. gets up over about 85 degrees. Downshifting or rolling the throttle on a little lighter stops it. I have been meaning to check my timing just to be sure it is correct, but since it is so intermittent I haven't gotten around to it yet. |

Ecmspy do some tuning after you verify your timing. Joe |

Are you possibly lugging the engine a bit??? If not check your primary chain tension. That can sometimes admit a rattle that can come and go. |
