The recent thread calling for XB pics has led to this one. I saw Lone XB's bike posted and like the XB12Rs idea and was wondering what parts it takes to make that work. Also, is there S's with passenger seat covers like for the R's? I would like the S's alot better if they didn't have a huge long banana seat. The one on LoneXB's looks a little different. Any pics of these conversions would be awesome. |

Alright, I figured out how itis all done through about 4 hours of trolling though the KV and XBoard. Now I have one final question: If you go from R to S tail, is it easy to switch back and forth between the two? I understand it is alot easier going S to R, but do you have to relocate any electrical, resevoir's, etc on the S 2 R swap like you do the R 2 S swap? |

If you go from R to S tail, is it easy to switch back and forth between the two? No. I understand it is alot easier going S to R R to S There, fixed that for ya but do you have to relocate any electrical Yes and no. Going S to R you may want to put the fuse box in the R's "trunk" the ECM above the battery, and the bank angle sensor under that (keeping it level for sure!) resevoir's Yep, they're slightly different, so you'd need to swap the way they mount, and I believe the brake lines are different lengths as well. etc on the S 2 R swap like you do the R 2 S swap? There's always etc... Remember the two are really different. The R to S is way easier, about a 30 minute job if you have everything you need. The S to R is a bit more involved because the electrics are all under the seat on an S, and behind the fairing on the R. So...going to an S tail on an R is just a matter of swapping out parts. Going from a S to an R is more difficult because the R tail wasn't designed to hold anything more than the brake reservoir and the battery. XB12RS Ulysses Adding a fairing to an S bike is easy peasy. |

So if for instance I have an R and want to go to an S tail the only thing I need to do major is mount the resevoir in a neutral spot, then I can swap S and R tails at will on my R bike? All the other R stuff doesn't get moved (because of coarse the ECM and perephrials are up front)? This is my main question. I would like "swapability" on my XB12R. I'm already on e bay looking for S frames and American Sport Bike looking at the seat cover for the S. |

I would like "swapability" on my XB12R. It all a matter of how much of a pain in the ass you're willing to put up with. It can be done. The rear brake is going to be the most pain, that and the wires going to the rear lights. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out a way to make it all temporary, so a "hot swap" ain't too much for you to deal with. For me though, I'd not worry about going back and forth, I've gone to the R tail, and don't miss the S tail at all. ....Oh I just remembered something.... The battery will be something for you to deal with as well. The cables are different. I had mine mounted upside down, until I got the time to do the cables. |

Hmmm... I was thinking of a frequency of changes like every season. I love the way the R tail looks and liked having the trunk on my 04 R. I just think it would be fun to change things up every couple of months. Also, I like the bobbed tail look of an XB12Rs. I would LOVE to see an RS with a Sharkskinz fairing. Some BadWeB'er has a pic posted of his White R with Sharkskinz fairing that would lend itself well to PhotoShop if someone here had those skillz. !!! |

Adding a fairing to an S bike is easy peasy. I'm gonna validate that statement tomorrow - kinda. I'm not expecting any glitches... Oops, did I just say that? What I meant to say was that I don't expect any difficulties in the process. 1313 |

Yeah...what Toona said! I'm not expecting any glitches... Does that mean you're not coming to The Barn? |

Glitch, No barn for me - this time. Doing it in my garage. I have to recant my previous statement. I've stumbled upon a glitch. I got a jump start on the 'removal of the old' process tonight only to find the ignition switch is held on by 2 tamper resistant Torx T45 bolts. Amazingly I do have some tamper resistant Torx bits, but unfortunately they only go up to T40. I sure hope that I will be able to find a suitable socket or wrench in this sleepy hamlet tomorrow... Thankfully these are the last 2 bolts that need to come out, so once I have the proper equipment things should fall back together. 1313 |

Thanx for the link Toona. Only if someone would post a detailed R2S Tail Swap process. I know it's easier but it would still be nice to see. |

I totally forgot about those bolts. Easy to forget when all the tools you need are right there in front of you. I sure am glad The Barn is only minutes away! John, since I was busy with the S2R I wasn't paying attention to Mark on the other side of The Barn doing the R2S, so I know very little about that change. I do remember though, he was done in like 30 minutes. That included taking his R tale off. |

Glitch and Toona, thanks for all the advise. I believe you guys got me straightened out on this. Still would love to see a photochop of a full fairing XB12-R S-tail. (Message edited by Cudajohn on April 13, 2008) |

I'm sure with some thoughtful thought, and good fabrication you could make a neutral mount. The wires in the tail section would need a quick disconnect, because they run up the outside along the sub frame under the body work. The rear shock reservoir is mounted differently as well. My best advise is that you bite the bullet and just do it. Since yours would be the first (that I know of) to be made "swappable" you'll be the go to man with this kind of thing. |

It'll have to wait till I get back from this shit hole.LOL I am looking forward to it and being the first full fairing XBR tail swapper. I was going to do the Micron and intake stuff first but there is no ECM solution with the 08's and aftermarket upgrades. May as well do asthetics first. Oh yeah, I have to order the bike first too. Wish I hadn't wrecked the '04! ;( Although, how many people can say they bought their Buell in the Middle East? (Message edited by Cudajohn on April 13, 2008) |

Thanks for the thoughts, give enough appreciation for 5. My brother is here in the Army, 1 Marine cousin here, 2 Oklahoma National Gaurd cousins here, and then me, the sand sailor. Grandma is worried sick. She had at least four son's in Vietnam (Uncle's T.L., Richard, David, and the gay one that I have never met and can't remember his name),don't know if at the same time. One was in the Korean War. Last deployment for me though. 3's enough. I think I'm hangin' it up if the economy gets better. |

Just a quick thought -- one of the main issues with the swap is the brake res -- might be a good fix to move it to the left front hand control (like a lot of metric bikes) or mount it to the rear swing-arm. I have been thinking about doing the move to the left control at the same time I change out my front res. -- I want a clear res up front (I like to see both of them, easier to notice problems). If you have an R front you will not have to do the electric swap each time so that should make it a snap, relatively speaking. As someone looking to turn his R into an RScg I am looking forward anything you figure out. Cheers, Ret |
