I have had my xb9 in storage for the winter and pulled it out the other day to get it ready for spring and it will not start. I tried looking at the plugs and they look ok and still fire. I used stabil in the fuel before winter. I saw in the knowledge vault that the injectors can get gummed up. Is there a way to clean them or do I have to buy new ones? stack |

got any more symptoms? Cranking speed? Any signs of life, small pop? can you hear the fuel pump running? The more descriptive you are the better answer you will get |

fuel pump runs. I tried giving it more gas via the throttle and the bike ran on just the rear cylinder. I could get it to run like that for a couple seconds. I felt the pipes and the front was cold and the rear warm stack |

Change plugs and wires for new, and retry. |

check the connection between teh coil and the spark plug wires. mine were rusted / corroded so bad the front was runing but the back was not. replace the coil and wires runs like a champ. try draining gas and putting some new stuff in also. |

When you put the Stabil in, did you remember to run it long enough to smell it out of the exhaust, thereby ensuring all parts of the fuel system got coated? |

So its actually starting and running somewhat but really crappy *I would drain the fuell tank, Use it for the mower.. Gas can be weird even if you used the stabil. Put a gallon or so of good gas and some lucas fuel additive or something similar.. Don't use the alcohol mix fuel from BP etc... I think shell is still straight gas and chevron.. I removed the injectors and cleaned the bottom of them with carb cleaner. Still nothing. I will try replacing the plugs and gas next. Is there a drain plug on the frame? stack |

Yes, Left side bottom of the fuel pump... Bottom center bolt is the drain... Its a flush bolt, BTW May not hurt to slosh your tank around a bit...That way any gunk with get mixed in before you drain it.. |

I tried giving it more gas via the throttle and the bike ran on just the rear cylinder. Sounds like fouled plugs to me. My wife's xb9 had a horrible problem of only fouling out the front plug. Problem was solved with the Pro-series plugs. |

are the pro series plugs a buell or HD part? I can pick them up on the way home from work tomorrow. Do you have a part number or are they the ones that come stock? stack |

32822-01Y (Buell p/n) they are about 7 bucks a piece and no they are not the stock ones. They are universal for all XB models for sure. Dont know about any other models. |

I’m betting you have bad gas, or some mold growing in the gas etc, I have seen green mold, white mold and yellowish mold in several carbs because of bad gas. I work in the power equipment industry and I also get to hear from all of the landscapers how bad today’s gas is, you are lucky to get 4 weeks out of it if not stored in a dry climate. The ethanol in the fuel attracts water which will settle at the bottom of the take and will create mold... I have also heard from several people that using sta-bil will only make it worse as it does not work good in today’s gas i.e. too much ethanol. |

Another advantage to living in Arizona...no bike storage issues. Bad gas is a good place to start. |

Cool Beans! How did the fuell look? Don't forget your tires pressure and suspension settings in case you gained or loss weight over the winter.. Now go carve some Pavement, now that you've woke the beast.. |

I will check out the suspension and set it up for the cooler weather. The gas looked a little yellower than normal. I will run it in the lawn mower. I road it real quick last night after getting it going. While I had the air box off I noticed that the previous owner must have cut off the velocity stack. The rubber piece just does not look right. Also I pulled the snorkel out. Bike ran really well it was about 60 yesterday. stack |

I had a similar situation last year. Stored it (Stabil & all) & it wouldn't fire in the spring. Checked the plugs & they looked fine and even fired when I grounded them against the engine block and cranked it over. But... replaced the plugs & presto-chango, it fired right up & ran beautifully. Gotta love it when things are easy. Had me sweating for a while though. |
