Al - I have read the exhaust shootout doc you have posted on your site, and I am wondering if you have more information on the Special OPS muffler. I have a 2005 XB9SX with the Race ECM, and I will soon be getting a Special OPS pipe. I am wondering how this combination worked as far as Air Fuel Ratio. Is it pretty good, or should I get my ECM re-mapped? I am a casual ridder, no racing for me, so I spend most of my time between 2500 RPM and 4000 RPM. Are there any other mods I should consider? Would I be better off getting a Stock ECM? |

A remap is generally the optimum, but it depends on the pipe and the usage as to whether it is necessary. For how you've described your usage, you'd probably be fine with a stock ECM because you're going to be in closed loop most of the time. But the spec-ops makes a fair amount more top end power than a stock pipe. If it were me, I'd definitely run a race ECM, because it's richer top end map is a MUCH better match for the top end on the spec-ops. It is in fact one of the best matching pipes to the race ECM top end curve, so it would run pretty good on a race ECM. We don't have an 05 XB9 map at this time anyway, so I'd say put a race ECM on and call it good. Al |

Doesn't the Special op's pipe still use the interactive valve, which is not supported by the race ecm? |

Yes it does, but Mnbueller has an XB9, the 9s don't have that valve. |

I guess I should read more thoroughly before I post. Nevermind! |

Mnbueller, I have an 05 CityX with the race ecm and spec ops pipe. I also put a K&N filter on. Runs like a champ, and pulls well through the rev range. It popped quite a bit on deceleration prior to putting the race ecm in once I installed the Spec Ops pipe. Race ECM cleared that up. If you do put the new ecm in, you will need to do a TPS reset. You can download ecmspy and build yourself a cable and do the TPS yourself. It is pretty simple, and MUCH cheaper than getting a TPS reset at the dealer. Al, I just sent you a pm about the 05 XB9 map. |
