has anyone tried to put a regular 1157 bulb into their tail lamp? I realized last night that my tail light was out. so I tried to put in a regular bulb from my trailer. the problem with that is the locator pins actually have the bulb configured backwards ( when the bulb plugs in, it displays the brake is being pressed). to solve this, I reversed the big plug on the harness. has anyone tried this before? I would like to know if i am going to get problems by doing this. mookie |

Are the wattages the same? If so, it shouldn't cause any problems. 12V is 12V is 12V. We have a regular old 1157 in my buddy's Katana, his blew one night in Grosse Pointe. He got pulled over by two different cops within ONE block because of it! I laughed my ass off...the bulb is still working over a month later. Bryan |

I'm using a plain old AutoZone 1157. Fit just fine. I tried the 1157 LED replacement bulb. The darn things last forever, and are waterproof, just not bright enough. |

I have a buddy that put the wrong bulb in his X1 rear blinkers and almost started a fire. He blew something out. I'm sorry I'm not an electrician and it was some time ago, but I belive he said this happend because the amperage was too high and so the blinker was pulling too many amps?? |

The stock bulbs in at least the 03 XB9 series are too wimpy; perhaps it's our beat up roads here. The HarLee bulb that's in just about all of the new bikes (about $4.00, made in Japan) lasts quite a bit longer. Sorry, don't have the part number in front of me but it comes in a plastic bubble on a hunk of cardboard for wall display. We put them in before the new bikes leave the showroom to keep the customers from getting run over. |

Bart, Then entire turn signal assy is only a dollar or two more than a bulb, why on earth would he replace the bulb in a turn signal? Anyways, turn signal bulbs are generally lower wattage/amperage than a tail light, but even so his fuse should have blown before it started a fire if it was pulling that much current. Possibly the bulb just got to hot and started melting things. |

Mookie, the headlight bulbs are H3's, you can find them at any auto parts store. They are a snap to replace. I use the Xenon Blue bulbs, they seem to put out a whiter light, maybe $6 for the pair? |

Hey, Does anybody have an aftermarket lens on their XB9S tail light. I am looking for a clear lens but haven't found one yet. Thanks, Morgan |

Hey guys, If the 1157 bulb works then move up to the 2357 bulb. It's 50% brighter on the low filament side and 25% brighter on the high filament side. The 1157 is rated at 1200 hours of service, the 2357 is only rated at 400 hours but the improved lighting might be worth carrying a spare bulb. This info came from www.theherd.com and look under tech articles. I haven't tried this in my bike but it may be the answer... |

Mookie, Not sure about your bike, but I have seen brake light sockets that allow an 1157 to be put in either way. The wrong way just requires more pressure on the spring in the bottom of the socket. Once in a while I'll see a car/truck with one tail-light brighter than the other, same issue. |
