Well I got 12,500 miles out of mine. Weird feeling. Guess I should go ahead and have them replace the pully too since it is scheduled at 15K. (It may not be the pully. I just know something major is supposed to happen at 15k). How is everyone else doing? Any other broken XB9 belts? How many miles? |

I broke my belt at a little over 6000 miles. Carelessly changing the rear tire. Are you thinking of upgrading to the '04 belt/pulleys? One of the guys at Stone Mountain HD/Buell said you can drill a hole in the new belts and still ride. Don't know how true this is, but it is a beefier belt. I want to do the upgrade. Don't know the cost yet. I'll have to wait any way as my wife just bought me the Carbon/Kevlar frame protectors. |

The 04 equipment has crossed my mind. I just don't want to wait to get back on the bike. I have the feeling that 04 parts aren't quite into the system, and I just finished waiting 3 weeks for a triple clamp. I JUST WANT TO RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'> |

KC, Do you have all your belt guards in place? I don't know if there is truth to this, but I've heard it posited that a broken belt can be warranteed if all the guards are in place and it broke before the scheduled replacement. I am nearing the 15,000 serive point (~13,500) and I hope to upgrade the belt and pulleys then. Mine is still in good condition, even after several rear wheel removals. Bryan |

My dealer says no, because I am outside of my one year time frame. He says it is not covered by the extended warranty either. But you're right, I should call Buell direct and ask them. I'm not sure that the dealer always checks all of the angles. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Update guys, I called the factory, and they agreed to warranty the belt under their "Goodwill" policy. Heck yeah! You were right that they wnated to be sure that the belt guards were in place (they are). So I'm going to go ahead and replace the idle pully while they are in there.

Sweet, now I'm glad I mentioned it. (wasn't going to since it was hearsay) Good for you! Ditto what Chainsaw said. I'm apparently easy on my belts compared to some (hehe...) but I'd still rather have the more robust one if it's not too expensive of a change. Bryan |

I asked the guy at the factory about going to an 04 belt. He said that I would have to buy a lot of parts. He said to expect to pay $500 to $700 in parts alone. |

I could see maybe $300 or $400 for parts would be worth changing it for me. I think $700 buys a lot of '03 belts. Would be nice if Buell came out with a discounted "kit" price for the whole shebang. Darthane / KC: Did you guys do your own 10,000 service? Anything out of the ordinary? I'm wondering if I should buy a new primary shoe at 10,000. Supposed to inspect it down to some pretty tight tolerances (with a micrometer I don't have!). If I'm burning a primary gasket just to inspect it, I may just replace it. Whattayathink? |

I just had my 10k service done last month. The tech said that my primary shoe had another 2 or 3 thousand miles left. He said that it was a good thing that it was inspected, and he went ahead and replaced it. He showed it to me, but I'm mechanically declined, so he may have been showing me a black rock he found outside. I really don't know if it really needed it or not. |

Ditto, mine is a heavy duty plastic, that looks like aluminum... Anyways, yes, I did my own 10,000 maintenance. The only thing I haven't done is the fork oil replacement yet (I'll be doing that at 15,000). My bike's going to be down for a bit during that period. I'll be replacing the O2 sensor, fork oil, primary shoe (mine was within tolerance, but getting close, at 11,300 miles), belt, and idler pulley, in addition to the standard shit. The primary shoe, IIRC, was like $23. Just replace it while you've got it apart. I didn't just because I needed to order one and really wanted to get back on the road, like RIGHT THEN. Bryan |

Ill expected to be white (like, the same as on the tubers ) , that should make sense ( cutting cost on stocking and developing ) but it’s really black ( or dark gray ) and the part catalog dues not say any thing on overseas bike’s ?? my dealers hasn’t seen one eider ( %&$$%# ), they didn’t hold the pri. Gasket in stock ( some very nasty word’s crossed my mind ), I thought it a scheduled check @ 10.000 miles, so I never expected the gasket would have to be orded!! Some times I wonder if I’m the only one over here who put some miles on a xb, And it feels like I’m the local test dummy, standard dealer answer “ never heard off that “ Gr, B
