Have you ever accidentally left the bike in the Park position? On purpose? I inadvertently have but there's always been someone there to remark, "Is your headlight supposed to be on?" Yesterday nobody told me and I didn't notice it myself, so naturally the battery died after 8 hours. So I think I'm gonna wire a beep beep alert to the Park position of the ignition switch, if that's possible. I don't need no stinkin' Park! Or Dead Battery! Sparky |

I thought "park" was tail lights only? Are the 'bolts different in that regard? |

Park on a Firebolt is only the rear red running light. |

I've always caught myself overclicking to park by seeing the tach and speedo needles doing there sweep. Sparky, hook that puppy up to your horn! |

I put a "parking light" in that light socket between the headlamps. Used a Xenon Blue signal light. Now if it's in "park" the headlamps glow a cool blue. The light stays on all the time, so it doesn't look so much like a blown out light. Is this socket for the Euro bikes? |

Okay, so the headlight is not supposed to be on in Park. The good news is that it is just the low beam -- the high beam does not operate. That means my bike is wired wrong somewhere. Looking at the wiring diagrams the low beam should be fed by a yellow wire in the main harness. Mine is by an orn/wht wire which also goes to the tail light. Strangely enough the Euro bikes have position lights & the tail light fed by an orn/wht wire. Methinks somebody wired my low beam to the wrong wire. Waddya'll think? Glitch, that sounds like it's a position light for the Euro bikes. Do all the US "S" models have this? I haven't found any extra sockets on my R, yet.

I guess I should amend my above statement. Park on MY Firebolt is only the rear red runnight light. Which is actually kind of odd, I would expect at least the front turn signals to light up as well, if not the headlight. On the Blast I think all the lights come on...I'll have to check that. Perhaps, sparky, it is MY bike that's wired wrong. |

I think all the S models have 'em, but not sure. I've not seen any extra on my friends R... |

Bryan & R owners, No, your bike's OK. Check to see if the low beam goes on/off with the Engine Run switch in run/stop positions (in Park). There's something about that in the owners manual I think. Mine's not switchable. The wiring's easy enough to check though. Follow the wires from the headlights to the connector. They should be yel/low beam, wht/high beam, blk/ground. On the main harness side for US bikes there should be 3 matching wires: yel, wht, blk. Note: weathering may darken these colors somewhat on exposed wires. On mine what should be yel is orn/wht on the harness side of the connector. I'm tracing through the wire harness trying to fine this elusive yellow wire. It's supposed to connect to the gray wire (ignition) that goes to the switched contact of the ignition relay. Fun, fun, fun! Euro bikes may have 4 wires according to the wiring diagram, the 4th one being the orn/wht one to position lights. I'm not sure where these would be located. Stot & Bud, do your Rs have these?

what purpose does the park setting serve? |

It turns on lights...kind of like hazards should you have to leave your bike on the side of the road when dark. |

I solved my wiring problem. Tracing the errant orn/wht wire back into the wire harness I found the correct yellow headlight wire cut off where the bundle goes under the frame by the steering head. OK, who had a bad day at the factory? Just kidding. So I cut the orn/wht wire, slipped a couple of yellow heat shrink sleeves on the ends of the orn/wht wire for identification, and joined it to the yellow wire. Now the headlight goes on/off with the key on Ignition & the run/stop switch, and the tail light only goes on in Park like it's supposed to. Problem solved. But maybe I might want to wire a beep-beep alert in the Park position anyways. Heh, heh. Thanks for all your inputs, Sparky |
