Normally I'd just think it's the battery, but I had to replace the W-bracket on my 03 XB9S, and to do that I had to remove the voltage regulator. I left this unplugged for about a week while I was waiting for my new bracket to come in. Now that everything's back together, I'm just getting the clicking starter. Could I have shorted something out or could leaving the voltage regulator unplugged have just messed up the charge on the battery? Just wanted to get any ideas before unnecessarily buying a new battery. I was gonna jump start it tonight to see how that goes. Thanks. |

if it's the stock battery in an 03 i'd be looking at the battery first. |

As Lion's fan said, if it is the original battery, it most likely has outlived its useful life. I just replaced the one on my '04, 11750 miles. Four years is about it for these batteries. Merely disconnecting the voltage regulator will not cause it to lose its mojo, if reconnected properly. Battery connectors often loosen, causing the click problem. Jumping the battery is not as good an idea as giving it a proper long trickle charge. Full voltage, several hours after charging is 12. 7 volts. 12.3 volts is half charge. A recent thread, " Reflections on a New Battery" covers the subject rather thoroughly: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/341380.html?1204826690 |

Ok, the only reason I was skeptical is that she was running just fine prior to the body work and disconnecting cables. Like you said though, it's an easy replacement for something that should probably be done anyway, so I might as well pick up a battery to eliminate a concern if nothing else. Plus she does lag sometimes before turning over. |

Batteries can go at a moment’s notice. I was riding with XB12streetdemon and his battery crapped out right in the middle of a ride. |
