I think I already know the answer to this, but here goes. While installing my new Micron exhaust, I opened up the cam cover and put in the new oil pump drive gear. I marked the timing as best I could with a scribe. I put everything back together and lined up the marks I made as close as possible. Do I need to have the timing and TPS reset with the new exhaust. I had the race ECM installed prior to this with the race exhaust. Any info on this? Schmitty |

Gotta unscramble this egg first. 1. When you replace the ECM with a race ECM, a TPS reset is a must. Many bikes won't even run without it. None will operate properly. 2. Changing the exhaust per se, does NOT require a TPS reset. All the TPS does is tell the ECM when the throttle is closed. 2. If you put your timing back together with the scribe marks, it is unlikely that you changed your timing as much as a degree, but it could happen. Checking the timing would be a good idea. Glitch just posted a simple way to do it. Here it is: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/341953.html?1205021652 (Message edited by gentleman_jon on March 11, 2008) |

Checking timing is ALWAYS recommended. I do it at EVERY service, definitely if the cam plate came off. It can't really change much, but it's good to check. Doing all those mods for power means nothing if the basic tuning is off. I always mark the plate before I time, just so I can see how much I moved it. A little bit goes a LONG way. |
