Ok I am a racer from the four wheel category so noodling with suspension is a given. I have a 03 XB9S-L. L because I am 5'6" wiht short legs! The setup from the shop was fine till the little lady wanted to ride, so I stiffened it all up. Now I can't ride the way I want to so I just happened to take the rear pegs off and "lost" the hardware! SO I reset the front to 4 lines showing and reboubd compression to 3/4 turn from hard. Rear is on 6 and same with comp/rebound. Problem is I bounce on the rear going over bumps slowly and but if I fix that the high speed handling suffers. To the front- at around 120 and leaned over to a knee my front end slaps and that ain't fun! I lowered the front but still no fix! Do I need different bars to get more weightover the front or is the low aspect of my XB9S-L killing me. I want to do track days next year and eventually race but I gotta figure this 2 wheel setup quick!

I'm on the same bike: XB9S-L. I'm also 5'6" and about 140 lbs. I'm still noodling around with settings but have taken rear pre-load down to 1 (!) and front pre-load showing 6 lines. That may be soft for you. I'm also using softer (less) damping and I'm finally starting to be happy with my bikes manners on the rough back roads I ride. My ass and back can't afford the tight track settings that would punish me with every bump and ripple.

I can still flog the sh*t out of the S in the turns, but the steering gets a little squirrelly getting hard on the gas coming out of a turn. Not sure if I'll ever find a happy compromise considering the roads I ride.

These are the settings Xb12r is talking about:
suspension settings
They were posted in the now defunct Battle2win magazine. I think Shawn Higbee (Buell racer) was involved with the numbers.
