All, I am purchasing those bar end mirrors (Third Eye) that seem to be the rage. I was looking at my bike and trying to figure out how the bar end comes out. Does it screw out or is it hard plastic that is stuffed in there? About the lollipop roots, what part of those comes off and what is left, can you cap it some how? Also has anyone tried those billet mirrors, but they are costly? Thanks! |

Thamks everyone, Dynarider, Are the CRG's the ones that clamp on to the existing bar end nub? And where did you get them, I saw them at Chaparral. Thanks |

I've got the same ones as Freyke, and they're great, except... I'm having a hard time keeping the right mirror tight enough to stay in place but not pinch the throttle. How'd you set it up, Freyke? -Geof

Geofg, I used a dremmel roto tool to sand down the end of the grip till it met the plasic end of the throttle tube (grip goes over the top of this)... it means you'll end up shaving off approx 1/8th of an inch off the end of the throttle side grip.... Use the sanding drum on your roto tool... works like a champ..... kk//kef |

Geofg, Bar Ends Here you can see what you need to shave off.... Sand Job - Throttle side grip This is the "untouched" grip" on the clutch side... Clutch Side Grip hope this helps... kk//kef |

I've had bad results from most of the rubber or plastic expanding inserts on the bar-end mirrors I've tried--they all want to let the mirrors fold back at anything above about 60 mph, so I've made replacements out of aluminum. I turn a piece of bar stock down on a lathe to a snug fit in the end of the bars, leave a little shoulder on the outboard end, cut to the appropriate length for your through-bolt, then cut the piece of it that fits inside the bar at an angle so that it jams inside the bar when I tighten it up. You have to bore the center hole a little oversize to allow the angled part to move sideways. So far, they've held the mirrors in position up to about 95 mph. r-t

Cool, thanks folks. Great pictures, Freyke. What I've done so far - which worked for a little while - is to cut a washer of sorts off the stock plastic bar-end to act as a spacer on the throttle side. This morning, I reversed the rubber expansion fitting so the "soft" side was further into the bar. It seems to be holding. We'll see if it loosens up again. If it does, I'll break out the dremmel. Road-thing's solution is the best, by far, but I don't have a shop to work in, so it would be tough to fabricate. -Geof

Dyna rider, Thanks for the info and pics. It looks like a good solution. I'll have to save a couple bucks first. Thanks |

I found some EMGO mirrors on eBay and installed them on my last trip to N GA. I don't know how they compare with Napoleons, but they're much better than the cheap-ass bicycle bar-ends I tried first. If anyone wants those, first $10 plus $2.50 shipping takes them. |

Could you not see out of your mirrors mounted on the fairing? and what is that wire running across your Handlebar clamp and down behind your airbox |

The fairing mounted mirrors weren't great, but no worse than some other sport bikes I've been on. I mainly wanted to clean up the front end by getting rid of both the mirrors and the signals. I think it looks a lot "cleaner" now. The ball mounted on the tank cover in the top picture is part of the RAM mounting system for my GPS. The coiled cable is a security cable I use to keep the GPS from hitting the ground if something comes adrift. |

LOL...I still have it, as does my girlfriend. You've got to give her credit, she showed no hesitation at all hopping on the back of my bike later that same day that I went down for the ride over there for the dinner. In retrospect, *I* probably should have, given that my back was killing me and I found out later I had a broken foot! Still had a great time, though. I must get back there next year. |
