I am new to the board and any help will be appreciated. Just rode the XB9S and loved it. I can get a 03 XB9S for $7999 plus tax. I think this is a good deal. Should I wait for a 04 for MSRP plus tax? Would the price difference be worth it? What pricing will the new ones be selling for? I am on Long Island. Any good dealer suggestions in my area? Michael 2000 FLHRCI 03?/04? XB9S (soon)

What would it cost you to get a 2 year warranty on the '03? |

What would it cost you to get a 2 year warranty on the '03? I did not ask. I can find out when I talk to the dealer. Have there been enough problems to justify an extended warranty. What is the warranty on the 03? (one year?) The 04 has a 24 months (unlimited mileage). Good point. |

See if the dealership will include a free extended 2nd year warranty on the 03 bike. |

Wow! $7999.00 Plus tax is a hell of a deal.... I paid $9700.00 plus tax.... But of course mine was the very first one in Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach back in November of 02.... So I paid for the privilage I guess you could say.... I suspect the same caper will happen to the "first of" 12s... I will say, I'm not bummed either... I love my 9S.....

Same basic bike, different details and colors and warranty. Are the minor details and colors and warranty worth the extra dollars to you? It really comes down to your choice. We can't say what we'd get because we aren't the ones getting it and can't be held accountable for the decision if it turns out wrong for you. We can only give you things to consider in your decision making process. Let us know what you decide, and why you decided to go that way.

The new Goodyear belt and minimal belt covers would be a good reason to go for an '04 if the price difference weren't too great. I hear, though, that production numbers on '04 XB9s may be fairly small -- they may not be readily available or in such substantial supply as to be discounted. |

Correct me if I am wrong, The colors haven’t changed for 2004 on the 9s. Have they? Better belt and warranty is all that I see different between them. Carter

Does the new belt fit the '03s, or would it require new sprockets? |

My understanding (from posts on this board) is that the pitch of the belt and pulleys have changed, so you would have to use the new pulleys with the new belt. |

Need new pulleys. The only real difference in the colors is that there is no white XB9R anymore. Other little diferneces the bule 9R has white wheels, and white lettering. Craig Buell Cycle Center

You can always swap the colors around. I know the plastic for my X1 was dirt cheap. Personally tho, if I was in the market looking at the XB's I would either bite the bullet & get the 12 or wait a year or so when the prices drop..you know they are going to. |

I'm going with the 2004. Lower passenger pegs, longer mirror stalks, better belt and belt guards. My friends are trying to talk me into getting the 12 and though I really want to, it's just beyond my price range. Besides from what I hear the 9 with the race kit does just fine. The stock 12 may still have a little over the race kitted 9 but who cares? Not me. The 2004 model just might be the last of the XB9R/S. Don't quote me on that it's just my own clueless assumption. But if they stop making the 9R/S they just might be worth hanging onto. Personally I like the 2004 XB9R colors over them all. The blue with blacked out motor and the white decals and wheels go together very well. I thought I liked the black 12R the best but the blue 2004 sneaked it's way into my heart and dug a home for itself. |

Metal, I suspect the 9R will be around for a while (just my clueless HO). Buell the co. and the man look to be interested in building a range of bikes, not unlike say, HD. you can get a hugger 883, a 1200 Sporty, up to a big twin from the Mothership, well you can get a Blast up to the 12 R with a couple of bikes in between from Buell. If the Blast/9R&S/12r&S lineup had been in place a couple of years ago when I was looking for a Buell, I would have ended up with a 9R. I really wanted something in between the Blast and the S3, since a lot of my riding is commuting back and forth to work in the city. Congrats and good luck. |

Just wanted to point out one thing that no body mentioned... the reason that Buell is giving a longer warranty is because the bikes are proving VERY reliable and they can afford to do it... not the other way around. You should have plenty of confidence in the reliability of your XB. |

Finally made my up my mind and got the 03 XB9S for $7999 plus tax. I hope to be picking it up late today. They have to change the wheel bearings before I pick it up. Michael FLHRCI_00 (Pearl White/Silver) XB9S_03 (Black) Long Island, NY |
