I was going to use the strap method but that compressor kit is pretty cheap. Now looking at the big compressor tool, i think i can make one of those. Wish i had some measurements though.

That Traxxion tool still blows compared to the big long compression tool made by Race tech.

No springs letting loose in your face! It's pricey, but your eyes and teeth will thank ya!

The traxxion tool is decent. But you absolutely have to have an extra hand there to help you slide the shim in and out of place. Total = 4 times. Pretty good bang for the buck. If you don't have an extra person, don't bother with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really would like to be able to do it myself without extra hands needed. The more i look i think i am going to make one like the Race Tech one.

I built one similar to American sportbikes for about $20. Just some square tubing and some all-thread and a few beers.

The big tool would definitely be the heat, but I already bought the Traxxion package by the time I saw the compressor on American Sport Bike.

I found if I put the forks on the floor, axle end down, on a piece of scrap wood and sit on one side of the tool, I can work it by myself. Its pretty easy to control your weight on the spring to insert the shim. Maybe one side longer would be better for this technique. That should be something simple to remedy. Once the holding piece is in place, it should all be the same.
