Another question. Anyone heard when the new 12R and 12S bikes will be hitting the dealerships? Obviously Buell has started building them, but when will they start shipping them out to dealers, do you suppose? |

Court, Our ordering system does not show if we have any coming or ordered or anything. Is there any way for us to find out? I want to know!! Craig Buell Cycle Center

Craig, If I am understanding you correctly, you are a dealer. But you don't know how many Firebolts or Lightnings you will get from the factory? Or when? Or what colors/models? That sounds like it would be scary from an inventory and sales prediction sense. I always assumed dealers put in orders a few times a year and then were informed by the factory how much of their order they might actually get and when. And special orders being handled differently, somehow. Am I completely wrong about all of that? On a side note, my local dealer has no idea when they'll get the new XB12R/S bikes. "Could be September. Could be November." On an even further to the side note... I took a close look at one of the pics from the MotorcycleOnline article on the new Buells. The VIN plate on the right side of the frame shows the build date of that XB12R as May of 2003. Might we infer from the date that the factory is already tooled up for XB12R/S production? And that they might well have begun mass producing the bikes? |

A salesguy at the local dealership in Seattle told me today that they expect the XB12's to start arriving during the first week of August. Or thereabouts... |

You guys are killin' me!! Gateway to The West in St. Louis is claiming mid-September delivery. Would anyone buy a Buell from a dealership where: A customer can just about stuff the key in an XB's ignition without a sales person stopping by for a chat? A customer is showing obvious interest in a Buell sitting on the sales floor with HD bikes all around, sales people are falling all over customers just passing by a HD on the way out the door? Service techs are openly derisive and hostile to Buell bikes? Personally, I'd be shopping around for a more Buell 'friendly' dealership...especially when they are using Buell Blasts in their Riders Edge MSF course... I have to admit, I find this relationship between HD dealerships and Buell tense. I admit I do not understand all the nuances or rules in the business game. Screw it all, if I were to buy another Buell motorcyle, I'd have to drive to Kansas where I know there is a dealer that cares about Buell motorcycles and can deliver expected customer services. |

Dealer know PRECISELY what they will be getting. XB's have been in production since May. Dealer know, pretty much within a week, when they will be arriving. I "THINK" (qualified guess) that XB12's are on the trucks at this time. Buell's next mountain to climb MUST be the dealer network. There *IS* a solution. If I were buying (and I confess to being on the edge) a Buell, I'd get it in Kansas based solely on the experience people have had with Buell in New York City. I've seen 2 Buells, one M-2 and one "Grape" Blast, in New York City the 6 years I've lived here. I have a pretty fair idea why, with a SMSA population approaching 12 Million folks, that has occured. I am thrilled with the current Buell offerings and this allows them to move the chess piece to the next square now that the ball is in Buells court. Court

Remember how fast after their intro the 9S's were at the dealers? They appeared on the pages of CW & were almost immediately on the showroom floor! I think Buell has done a good job of ramping up production early, introducing the bikes, & making them available at the dealers with all of the XB models. I personally cannot wait to see these bikes in person. |

The dealership in Kevyn's experience is the same one selling a leftover '02 X1 for $12.5k and new XB9s for $12k. Last time I was there they had no Buell signs or merchandise. |

"...my local dealer has no idea when they'll get the new XB12R/S bikes. "Could be September. Could be November." " Could this have been followed with a "so you might as well just buy one of these here right now instead of waiting for who knows how long for a new one"? "...is the same one selling a leftover '02 X1 for $12.5k and new XB9s for $12k." Are they selling at those prices, or are they trying to sell at those prices. I wonder how many bikes they actually move out the door? A local shop that has a tradition of up-marking floorstock isn't moving the new bikes out the door as quickly as they have in the past. I'm doing a casual observation of a couple of dealerships this year between now and October just to see what's goin' on. If one H-D salesguy buys a new or used bike between now and August 31st I'll knows sales have picked up (he's currently bikeless), and if one H-D/Buell salesguy sells his 1300+cc XB9 and gets a new bike I'll again know sales have picked up, but if neither of them do then I expect December will see a lot of 2003/2004 bikes still sitting on the showroom floors.

Brian, Be sure to let us know as soon as yours gets there. Our sales manager just keeps telling me they'll be here "soon." If you get yours first I may have to make a trip out there. The cool part is that our sales manager is actually excited about this bike, and he doesn't even like Buells. I'm working on getting the first red XB12R that comes off the truck. Mike L. I just got off the phone with a local dealer. He said that they will have XB12S Lightnings avaliable for sale within two weeks. The XB12R Firebolts will not be avaliable as soon. He wasn't sure, but suspected they might not get XB12R Firebolts until October. |

Too bad, would be real nice to see some rolling around the region during the 100th Harley Anniversary stuff. I know the demo-bikes will be here, but hey. |

AAAHHH! I can't take the suspense. Our sales manager has no idea when the bikes will be here and the sales staff keeps guessing it'll be at least a month. After hearing of Tilley's having theirs shipped on the 14th I've been pacing around the dealership all week waiting for ours to arrive. I even check out the back door where the trucks pull up every hour or so. Madness I tell you, madness. Mike Luddy, Jr. |

Not that I can really afford one right now, since my wife just bought her first bike, but is the XB12R really going to be worth it? I still have my M2 and sometimes wish I could get a new bike but other times tell myself not at the cost of getting rid of my M2. Figure about $7,000+ after selling my M2 to get a 12R. Is that really worth it? Seeing what the my M2 and XB9's are going for does not make me feel secure about buying another Buell. One local dealer had two 9R's with a build date of mid 2002 and two 9S'. Sales seem slow. I would love to grab one of the 9R's really cheap once the 2004's come out, but what's a realistic price. They seem to be in the low 8,000's on Ebay. My heart still wants a R1150RT but that is years off. |

Our first XB12 would have been delivered today except someone else's bikes were in front of it in the trailer. So our Midnight Black XB12S will be delivered on Tuesday. |

I didn't get mine this week either, they better have it here soon, I have it sold. I don't think I'll ever figure out how they do their shipping. I saw a black XB12S yesterday at Doc's outside of Green Bay. All I have to say is WOW I almost bought the bike right there on the spot. After I got home from the dealer, I actually put a For Sale sign on my S3/1. I'm asking way too much money but I can't afford the XB12S without getting a good chunk of change for my other bike. I'll be heading over tomorrow (hopefully) for a test ride }}} |
