Does anyone know, or better yet have pictures of, the internal difference between the stock exhaust and the discontinued Buell Pro Series exhaust? I know the Pro is at least shorter from pictures, but that's it. Also, does anyone have any good pics of the pro series from the top, bottom and sides that they'd like to post? I'd like to replicate the dual tips with a Spec. OPS pipe. | ||

I don't have pictures readily available, but the internal difference is basically this: Stock pipe has a servo-actuated baffle which is controlled by your throttle position sensor. Give it gas, it opens up, makes more noise, gives more power. Sounds like a lawnmower. Race pipe is wide open all the time. Sounds like a much bigger lawn mower. Call Odie about the Spec Ops pipe, he can probably accommodate you with a special dual-outlet. He's very crafty. | ||

If I remember correctly from the mufflers I cut up a while back, the stock XB12 Buell muffler has the valve at the inlet and three tubes running most the length of the muffler (thru two baffle plates, which are also the jacking points) The valve bypasses two of these tubes, dumping most of the exhaust into the first cavity of the muffler then running out the third tube to the tail pipe. With the valve closed, the exhaust has to run thru all three tubes before it dumps out the tail pipe. The obsolete Buell race muffler has both baffle plates replaced with perforated sheet metal. The muffler inlet runs into the muffler, down the length of one tube, then dumps out the tail pipe. | ||

Dickc: Yeah, I know what Odie normally does, but I really like the looks of the Buell outlets. I was just going to fabricate some of my own copies for Odie to use when I order my pipe from him while I'm waiting for things to melt here. Prowler: Thanks for the info although I'm not sure if I understand the race layout totally. The inlet runs almost to the back of the pipe? Could you post a sketch? Thanks again. | ||

Eldredma, the muffler is divided into three sections by the baffles, located at the jacking points. The racing muffler inlet makes a 90 deg bend into the muffler and then goes thru both of the baffle plates (which in the racing muffler are perforated instead of solid) and dumps into the rearmost section of the muffler which is just forward of the exhaust outlets. |
