Ok... so... with ~40k miles on the 2004 XB12R, my voltage started dropping, intermittently. I checked the battery, still ok. Check the stator, still ok. Voltage regulator, still ok. Button it all up again, and go for a ride... and the voltage starts dropping... intermittently. So, now I'm thinking I have a short... somewhere... I start going through the wiring... from the back to the front, and when I got to the front, I found that my new VOLTAGE METER had a loose ground wire. So, my bike continues to be the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Dammit!

My condolences on the reliable bike. When you spend a whole bunch of time trying to find a problem, there's nothing worse than discovering there is none I can speak from experience on that (Message edited by metalstorm on February 18, 2008) |

Well, in your case there obviously was something wrong and that just plain sucks I tore through my wiring harness some time ago and was lucky enough to find not one but two nicked wires right under the fuse box. I started from the front and worked my way rearward |

electrical problems are the worst thing to chase! now after that would be vacuum leaks. i just spent a few hours trying to figure out why the gf's car would no longer change from vent to defrost or floor. first place i went was under the hood and had a look see. didnt find anything so i started tearing into the dash. had half the dash pulled out to get at the stuff back in there only to not see any problem there. went back under the hood and low and behold find that damn broken hose right where i had been looking before. i think it just must have been cracked and me messing around finished it off so i could see it. |
