Due to belts shredding on my 2003 XB9S I switched to chain drive a while ago. Last winter someone on the board figured out that their belt issues were due to a bent swingarm pivot bolt. I pulled my swingarm pivot bolt this afternoon to see if it was bent, and replace it with a new one. It is fine, so my belt tension problems are elsewhere. However, I noticed that the new swingarm bolt has two big improvements: 1) The diameter of the bolt between the bearing landings is much larger. Must be a reason to have beefed it up so much. 2) The nutsert for the belt guard bolt (that spun in mine years ago) has been eliminated and replaced with threads tapped directly into the bolt. So, if the POS nutsert in your swingarm bolt is spinning, the new bolt has the problem solved. |

Excellent knowledge, Scott. Has the part number changed? Or is it one of those running updates where the part changes but the number does not? |

I don't know if the part number changed or not, I just told the dealer what I needed. I should have taken pictures, but had dirty hands and just wanted to finish the job. I was thinking that maybe it had to be beefed up for the Uly, but that is just a guess. The 2003 bolt looks really flimsy compared to the newer one. |
