Listen up XB9r's - This looks quite interesting for more overall performance. Read this - http://www.cycledoctor.com/nav.htm And this - http://www.cycledoctor.com/JohnsonArticles/Head.html Johnson Engine Technology seems to have one of the most thoughtful approaches to Harley performance that I've found. But he doesn't do XB9's because he says their isn't enough interest. Say what?? XB9r's call or e-mail him and show some interest. And maybe we can gain another player in the XB9 performance game web site http://www.johnsonenginetechnology.com/

And maybe we can gain another player in the XB9 performance game And the sponsors aren't enough for you? If they're no interested now, why bother? I'm not gonna list 'em here but go here and see these guys aren't only interested, but driven. Just hang out and read. These guys are here, and treat the new guy just like everyone else here. Top notch Buellers aren't made...they're born...

Nallin Racing and Cycle-Rama are well known and well proven Buell and HD performance experts with lots of race wins and records and lots of well proven dyno charts, not to mention the fastest Buell on the planet. Never heard of the johnson shop. edited by blake on July 30, 2003 |

Zip, I wouldn't knock another shop in a million years, particularly one I know nothing about, I've never met the guy and I've never once seen his stuff or had it on the dyno. For all I know it's the greatest stuff in the world. But, that said, I read the article and I'm having a hard time understanding what the author is so impressed with. They made 80hp on 1200cc with 10.5:1 Wiseco pistons, ported heads with reshaped chambers, a modified carb, aftermarket exhaust, and stock cams. WTF? I've seen absolutely bone stock 1200cc Buell M2's do that, and they use stock XL cams and 10:1 pistons too. What's the big deal? The author raves about how early the power comes on, which is nice, but there's no dyno sheet, so it's a little tough to tell. I don't much trust s.o.p. impressions, especially since the author of this article seems so impressed by 80hp. Like I said, the last thing in the world I want to do is sound like I'm knocking this shop. I don't have nearly enough information to do that. The only thing I can really say is I can't figure out, from that article, what's the author is so impressed with. 80hp on stock cams ain't impressive. Buell made a bike that would do that right off the showroom floor. |

Mark Lewellen.....that you? Every couple years, along comes a self proclaimed, Buell-nicient person/shop/thing. The old "if it seems to good...." addage applies. Think Ask Respect the value of staying power and proven performance. I, too, am making no presumptions. Just thinking. |

Well, that article was written back in 94 - way before Buell was shipping a bike with that much power. I remember all the talk on the Sporty boards was how much BS Buell was spewing about their "91HP" and "101HP" bikes... before it cam out they were right. |

Zip: Correction. No one here is brutal. Long along bullshit was being piled high. The Buell, for a variety of reasons ranging from "American engineers are no match for the Italians" to "HD bueuracracy", was slapped like a bastard child. In 1995 I offered a "put up or shut up" challenge to Steve Beigle when he made the "sweepings off the HD factory floor" comment. I challenged him to meet me, bring $10,000 cash and take a leisurly trip around the USA. We'd ech leave our cash and the first one to do anything other than oil, gas or tires forfeited the $$ to MDA. Steve failed to show on July 10, 1995. Shame too. Over the next 31 days I took a leisurely ride through 37 states. Did a radio call in show "live from a Buell" each day at 10:00AM and met some very nice people. Couple years ago, everyone was pretty much claiming THEIR bike had about 4,200 HP and could go 312MPH. We insulted no one and we demeaned no one. We simply collaborated, organized, built and went to Bonneville amidst cries of "Salt Vigins", "over confidence" and "Salt Fever". Four days later we left with 4 Land Speed Records and an unofficial "best organized team to ever arrive at Bonneville". We have now broken 9 records simply in the name of fun and fellowship. Now, when the talk starts we have but to produce our certified timing slips. We are, by our collective nature, pundits when claims are made. If you want to have an absolute ball, book a flight to Bonneville (or ride) to The Bonneville Salt Flats and bear witness to the World's Stop Sign for Bullshit. Nah...we're not mean. Court |

1994? Well, that explains a LOT. Okay, now it makes sense, that probably was a pretty decent result for 1994. I don't know of the guy, whether he's still porting HD heads or not. But I sure as hell wouldn't draw any conclusions based on his results from 1994, good or bad, that's for sure. It wasn't that long ago that breaking 100hp was considered an achievement. I remember when Cycle-Raam did the motor for Steve Madden and made 113 it was greeted with a lot of skeptcism, and that was only a couple years ago. Now they and us both post 120+hp results and everyone yawns. Who knows where we'll be 2 years from now. |

I sense a disturbance in The Force... yes! A mention of smadd's 113 HP! Aaron... it's been about three years! Where has the time gone??? The old motor is still running strong. I wonder... is smadd's controversial dyno output going to be the "15 minutes of fame" in my lifetime? |

I count myself among the lucky few. I have heard Smaddy and Pammy's bikes together cruising down the boulevard. (unfortunately I was caged in a car) As we leave the restaurant a dozen craning necks watch this cute little girl walk up to this screaming canary yellow X1, the key turns, the button is pushed and BWWWWAAAACK! potato-potato-potato.... 6 jaws hit the table. The sound was awesome, and Smadd was doing cute little wheelies just to aggravate Pam. And typically for this group, they are both quality people. |

Thanks, Tripper! Man! That was a long time ago! I miss not being amongst other Buellers. SE Ohio is lacking in that area. But at least it's not lacking in good riding. |

Sure he does! I'm sure Pammy set him straight! Gotta admit, the reading wouldn't have been nearly as interesting without his input.

Those numbers seem mediocre these days don't they. Tell ya what though, I'm still right about the drag racing LOL. Rocket |

Those numbers ARE mediocre now. My bike, still an 88", is putting out around 160hp. After a final tweaking it should be over. I'll either be off with it to Maxton in September or it will be going to Bonneville(without me) Rocket, as memory serves, the argument we had was about you using the rev limiter as a shift point! But only using 3 gears out of 5 in a race...Hmmm, do you only use half of your brain to think as well? You know I love you brother. |
