Hi all. My name is Tom, I'm 33 & 1/2 years old and have been riding street bikes since I was 15. I started with a 85'Honda Nighthawk 450, stepped up to a 87'Kawasaki EX500 to a 92'Kawa Zephyre 750 to a 99'HD Sportster. It looks like I'm now about to join the ranks of Buell riders out there (finally). In a month I'm trading in my HD Sportster (883 converted to a better than stock 1200) and getting a XB9R. I know the 12R is just around the corner but it's out of my price range and frankly I really liked the smoothness of the 9R (test rode one yesturday). I figure when the warranty is up I can convert the 9 to a 12. Not stroked but bored which although wont be quite as powerfull as a stock 12R the shorter stroke should keep her revving smooth and allow a higher redline than the stock 12's 7K limit. Plus on paper it will be a 984cc so insurance and registration will be affordable. I fell in love this bike two and a half years ago when I first saw a picture of it and now that I've finally ridden one I have to get it. It's a downgrade for me in the power department (My sporty would chew it up and spit it out) but it's a definite upgrade in handling and comfort. Maybe I'm backwards but that leaning forward position of the 9R feels great on my back and hip. I absolutely love it. I have always had the highest respect for Buell and I'm damn proud to be finally joining the party!  | ||

LOL...just how powerful was this Sporty? 9Rs are 12 second bikes as is, not to mention that they'd eat a Sporty alive on anything resembling a curve. You'll have more fun than you ever imagined on this bike - I should know, I've got one! Bryan | ||

My sporty is hella powerfull. The bolt has more top end but my sporty is all about torque. 1200 cylinders with dished pistons and 883 heads for increased compression. Andrew N4 cams. 7K rev limiter and the lower gearing of the 883. It pops second gear wheelies like there's no tomorrow. The only other bikes I've ridden with more oomph were a 2000 M2 with N6 cams and an old iron 1000 sporty that had been stroked to 1200. I rode the bolt for a good hour and a half Saturday and it doesn't have nearly the same torque. The revs rise faster though and it is without a doubt alot more fun to ride. The loss in torque is nothing compared to what I gain. The 9R is just simply more comfortable for me to ride. It's more nimble and I don't have to worry about scraping peg or pipe (which is a daily occurance on the sporty)and I did notice that if I keep the revs above 4500 (I stayed around 5K) on the bolt, it has adequate power. Yes the sporty has more torque but the bolt does the job just fine. It is in my opinion a much a better bike for me than the sporty. You won't get any argument from me on how much fun it is. I believe!  The most powerfull bike in the world would be utterly useless if it didn't have a strong fun factor and the bolt is 100% fun factor. I will miss the sporty for maybe the first 10 seconds after I ride off on my soon to be XB9R. I only have to wait roughly 30 more days give or take a week but it's feeling like an eternity. I've lusted over this baby since mid 2001 and it's finally becoming a reality  | ||

Thanks guys. I checked out the Nallin Racing site and "Yeah Baby!" That's what I'm talking about. As soon as the warranty is up on my soon to be 9R I'll bore the cases and make her a 1200. Till then I'm just gonna love her way she is. It'll probably take me those two years to really learn how to ride her to the limits anyway. | ||
