I've wanted a Buell for a while (love the look of them, and I really like vtwins)...I found what may or may not be a good deal on a leftover...

2005 Buell XB12Scg. New, never titled. Has 645 (strike that, make it 650 now) miles. It, along with a brother, was loaned to Biker Build-off...the brother was customized, this one was just used to compare to stock. When it was being picked up by the dealership to bring back home, they dropped it in the bed of the truck - it now has a scratch on the left frame at the widest point, and the taillight housing is scratched up - the 'ship replaced the mirror, clutch lever, and turn signal. Still has the remainder of the factory warranty.

They're pricing it at 6995 + paperwork fee (I forget the actual freakin term right now) plus tax. It blue book's at $7460. I'm thinking if I can get it OTD for 7k I might do it. Registration will be extra - the dealerships down here don't register/transfer reg...

Thoughts? Should I offer less, walk, or snatch it up as is?

Too much money. Call Mike at Seminole Buell in Fern Park (Orlando). I was there yesterday and he had new, undamaged 2007s for a grand more, and several to choose from, with a full 2 year warranty.
It's a Buell stand alone store with lots of Buell goodies and the guys there are actual Buell owners and daily riders.
Mike has been around Buells for several years and knows the product real well and is fun to do business with. How do I know this you ask? I sold Mike the Buell Lightning he's riding now, new in 2004.
Care to guess where I'm getting my next Buell?

Excellent info. At the very least I'll try to use that as a negotiating tactic - I'd rather pay a few bucks less for a mildly scratched 05 just to save the cash. Any other opinions, or leads on deals like that?!

There are also a few "improvements" to the 06, 07, and 08 XBs which you might want to consider. 06s have a better shifting tranny. 07's have an improved cold air intake. 08's have a better fuel injection system, to name a few.05 XBs are great but you can feel the difference in the more recent models. To me, all of this would make the 05 worth quite a bit less than the book value. Maybe you can use this info in negotiating a better price. Then use the cash you saved to buy some aftermarket goodies!

Heh. I don't know if I'd even give them 8k for it. I got my 07 XB12SS at the end of June, because I couldn't wait for the 1125R. I went in last week and asked what they'd give me for mine, and with a straight face, he said $6k flat. I owe about 10.2. No way am I paying $16k for an 1125R, or 7k+ for an 05 when they want to nail you when you want to upgrade.

Cool -

You do know that the XB12Scg is a model that is about an inch and a half lower than the standard model for those who might be inseam challenged, right?

Unless you are shorter than normal, you probably do not want this model.

In addition, they have a lower resale than the normal models, and converting them to standard height is not cost effective, unless you find someone with a standard model that wants to trade forks and rear shock.

Not a big job to change them if you are a skilled mechanic, but if you normally don't change your own oil, this is not the job for you.

I think $6K out the door is plenty for this bicycle, even with the two year warranty because of the improvements in later years.

KBB.com indicates that my 2006 XB12Scg is worth $8050 retail and $5580 trade-in

A 2006 XB12S is worth $7525 retail and $5210 trade-in.

The cg is worth more ...

Another local dealer has an 07 Ss, zero miles, asking $8 OTD. Thoughts on that?

if new that's a pretty good deal if you ask me. i'd rather pay a few bucks extra to get a bike that isn't cosmetically jacked up, new or used.
