Feel free to move this post to a different forum, but I wasn't sure where to start. Trying to race-prep a 2008 XB12R for the first time and pondering the choices for safety wiring the brake caliper fastener bolts.

What do you think of this idea:
Replace the 4 OEM caliper fastening bolts (5/16" hex head) with same grade (hardened) but 1/4" longer.
These are the bolts thru the rear swingarm and on the front fork tube.
Also add a lock washer (also hardened).
This leaves about 1/8" exposed above the top edge of the counter-sunk holes for safety wire.
I have a local source for the bolts and washers and I'm testing the fit tonight.
Do you think the replacements will have a negative effect relative to torque specs, etc???
At this time there seem to be no clearance issues for adjacent components, at least on my 2008 XB12R.
Investment thus far: $3.00.
Call anytime...

I filed a small notch in the fork leg holes and then installed the bolts and torqued them. I marked the bolt head to line up with the notch, removed them (and didn't mix top to bottom), and drilled where the notch would go. I put the notches on the thick side of the fork leg, facing the fork tube.

I honestly can't remember if or what I did to the rear. It was the older swingarm. I think I just did the caliper bolts and they weren't concerned with the mounting bracket bolts.

This was on the Cycle Connection XB9R back when it was still the 9R chassis. If you PM Josh Cox, or Frank Gonzales (Usually he goes by speedycycles, but I'm not sure who he is on here), they can get you photos.

The wire in the notch keeps the bolt from backing out.

I used a flat file so my notches had a flat bottom and allowed a few degrees of alignment.
Also nice for indicating possible bolt/thread stretch. If the notch quits lining up, something is stretching.
