I sold my '99 M2 last year leaving me with only a '78 CB750. I have been dying for modern brakes and suspension. Found what I was looking for at new dealership in Frankfort, IN. Black 2003 XB9S 5k mi. Completely stock. Got 'em down to $3500 Needs a new rear tire and some good cleaning/polishing. Runs good. Tested up to 120mph. I wonder what the 'wind chill' is at 22 degrees and 120 mph winds??? I know it's not a real thread without pics, but I don't have it in my possession yet. They are going to deliver it to me this week. I test rode it today, 22 degrees The techs didn't know what to think when I showed up in a suit and tie, gear in hand, and asked them to get her warmed up for me |

"Damn Bad Weather Bikers!" Make sure it has the orange bearing seals in it, NOT THE BLACK ones. It is not a recall item, but the dealer is supposed to replace them and BMC compensates the dealer. |

I think the wind chill at 22 and 120MPH is Frostbite! Glad to see you back on a Buell though And in Indiana at that...Angola is going to get pounded again they say...up to 15". Birdy |

-7.3F is the calculation of 22F at 120mph. |

U4euh, thanks for the tip. Haven't checked. They did replace the fluids and put in new seals in forks. Don't have it home yet, but here are pics from the dealership Needs a DIY tail chop Must have gone down? Plan on painting the frame/swingarm black or dark grey anyway The feel of the handling and engine is completely different than my M2 was. Didn't have the down low punch, but up top, much better! Hit rev limit several times because she just kept pulling, oops |

The tubers and XB's are night and day aren't they? I think the most obvious difference being chassis stiffness. The XB chassis is just rock solid. I went from riding my S2 to an '03 XB9S and I'm still getting used to the difference. First thing you need to do is set the suspension. It's easy and it's always good to know where you're starting from. Check the owners manual, if you don't have one I think it is posted somewhere on badweb. |

No owner's manual, but I remember seeing the suspension settings posted here. Lots to do: Check wheel bearings Set up suspension for my weight Remove Mirrors (Replace with bar-end mountain bike mirror on left-side) Remove reflectors from forks Paint Frame/Swingarm Remove Buell Decals from tank (any suggestions) Polish out scratches in airbox cover Airbox mod (love to use the dremel) Cut down license plate bracket (dremel) K&N Filter Make cable and download ECMspy TPS reset New rear tire What am I missing? get both tires at once. having the new and used profile into turns takes the fun out of riding. |

Dealer just put new Pirelli on front but left the old dunlop on back. Only has about 40% left, if that. Couldn't talk them into throwin in new rear. |

Eric, I was at that dealer last Friday and I looked at that very bike. If I didn't have one of those already, I would have considered buying it. Look me up this summer and I'll head over that way and ride. You might want to add axle sliders to your list, if you haven't already. By the way, since you're going to paint the frame and swingarm, how do you think the 1125R frame paint would look on that? |

Lightninggrob, glad you didn't get it Just checked out picks of your bike. Looks very nice. The mods you have done give it a nice subtle/clean look. Definitely in for a ride. Not to many Buellers in the Lafayette area. The blue 1125R frame color would look good, but I like the mostly blacked out look. Eric (Message edited by eengler2 on January 31, 2008) |

What am I missing? Change oil to synthetic, change oil filter(better safe than sorry), change the primary fluid. I know the dealer may have done this, but it is 40 dollars worth of peace of mind. Check Muffler clamp for tightness, brake flood, and upgrade headlights, and get Traction Grips! I would also be on the lookout for a more comfortable seat. Coming from your old bike to this 2x4will surprise on the long stuff. I bought a CityX seat off bwb FOR 35 bucks, and it makes a world of difference when riding 2 up or long distances. from the picture above, it appears to still have the black bearings in the wheels, that could also just be bad resolution due to resizing also, hard to tell. Make sure you carry the Buell customer service phone number with you in case they want to try to convince you that they are not responsible for it. Again they get covered for it from Buell. Just another bug in your ear. If they do neeed to replace the wheel bearings, consider powder coating the rims at this time if you have thought about a different color at all. I did this with mine, and it basically only cost me the $$$ for the powder coat. Buell paid for the new bearings and the labor to have them installed. you already said your getting a new tire on the rear, so no extra labor for that tire. Only extra would be for the front tire removal and re-install. Just make sure you take it to a powder coater who can handle doing the job. Mine messed up the front rim and had to buy me another one. |

Great info. So for the bearings, I just need to tell the dealer to replace them and they should charge BMC? Yeah, headlight. Need to add HID to the list for the low beam and wire for both to come on for high. Thanks for the reminder. Wish I had a heated garage to get this done before spring! I am wanting to make March Badness, but I am driving back from Texas 20 hrs with the wife and kids. Should arrive Friday mid-day. Don't know if I'll be up for a 10 hour ride after that |

Search Badweb for Higbee's suspension tables. There are more hints there for "tuning" your suspension after your initial adjustments. Check with your DMV about removing the side reflectors. They're writing tickets in CA for that... but I can hear you telling me "yeah, that's what you get for living in California!" |

That's one nice thing about Indiana. Very little enforcement of modifications made to vehicles. No yearly inspections, either. |

Back in those early days there was also a recall on the kickstand as well as the wheel bearings. Make sure the kickstand has an "R" in the base. This might have already been mentioned, but did not notice it.... |

Finally, got the bike home, in the rain. No new pics yet. Definitely have the black wheel bearings up front. So, I just need to take it to dealer and have them changed, free-of-charge? Airbox needs the dremel right-away I will be searching here at Badweb for some pics of what others have done. Will post pics of my own when my garage dries out! Also, idles low with a stumble off idle. I assume TPS reset and idle set will fix that? Will be making a cable for EcmSpy soon. |

If you're not set on painting the frame a darker color you can get matched silver paint from the dealership. The previous owner of my XB9S painted the tail section with it and it matches the frame perfectly. |

Actually, before you paint it try something cheap & easy. Get a clean soft cloth(old t-shirts work great) and try rubbing out those scratch marks with original crest toothpaste. Don't use the gel, the original mint green stuff. You'll be surprised how much of that will come off. Powdercoat is tough, but it's no match for the cavity-fighting power of crest. |

I may try polishing it out, but it will be a darker color hopefully sooner rather than later. Just don't like the gray frame |

Yes, the bearings and labor should not cost you a penny. Call the dealer first and make sure that they are aware of this situation. The dealer may not have had any dealings with this and may be in the dark, but it is something that Buell should cover. If you have any problems I would look up Court on this board and explain your situation to him. I have an airbox mod that I done 3 years ago and got the nod of Mr. Buell himself. I am at work and will try to post pictures tonight. When you say stumble off idle, is it when you give it some throttle when idling and the motor kind of pauses? or is it when running at stready speeds and you can feel a stumble? be back tonight |

Idle, give it some throttle, pauses, sort of stutters til it gets going. |

I sold my '99 M2 last year leaving me with only a '78 CB750. 1) What kind of shape is the CB750 in? 2) Is it for sale? 3) If so, how much? 4) Can I see a picture of it regardless? 5) Is it a CB750F? K? Hondamatic? or just a regular 750? |

'78 750K, 62k miles. Not for sale bike has been in the family a long time. But pics as requested... Before After Currently collecting parts and $$$ for modern/retro/cafe build. Will have fiberglass tank and single seat. GSXR600 front end and Busa swingarm/monoshock (already have swingarm and wheels). Along with 836cc big bore. Gonna be a long project. I will be doing the suspension/frame mods myself, but outsourcing motor. |

UPDATE... Airbox chop. (I know, I need a K&N) Speed holes Removed stock mirrors. Put on mountainbike bar-end. Removed reflectors. Not pictured: Breather filter under airbox, along with a hose ran down near oil cooler to function as catch can. Also, shortened snorkel. Next up... Remove extension stalk on front turn signals. DIY tail chop and license plate relocation. Still trying to decide on what color to paint frame/swingarm. Black, charcoal, satin-black, flat??? |

I pulled my front turn signals off and there's a metal tube that runs through that extension stalk. It's threaded at the end and is ultimately what holds the turn signal on. You might be able to pull the tube out, shorten it, and then put it back into the ts housing. I'm not sure though, I just opted to get some mini-stalk signals from a local sportbike shop. |

Hmmmm...I assumed it was the same as my old M2. I had no problems with it. I'll take a look at the XB9 tomorrow. |
