I have the Zumo mounted on my crossroads handlebar crossbar now I need to hardwire the biatch to my battery. I have no clue how to do this and I could not find the info on Garmin web sit. Any help would be great. |

I don't know exactly what you are looking at doing. My Zumo 450 had all the stuff needed to wire directly to the battery - including the fuse. I'll go see if I can find the wire dealy-O that gave the waterproof connection to the mounting. It was a no-brainer. |

Here it is. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1561# The connector uses 2 screws to connect into the waterproof holder on one end, the other end wires go to battery positive and negative. The fuse is inline. I assume you have the Garmin mount and brackets, right? If you don't, you're going to have to spend some money to get them - doubt there's any other way to get weatherproof mounts and external power. (Message edited by slaughter on January 29, 2008) |

So are you looking for the color of wires you need to hook into to get a switched hot so it goes on and off with the key? I can check mine tomorrow if you like. |

I bought the ZUMO new and have all of the parts to do the job but since there were no instructions I just wanted someone to give some pointers how to run the cord. Do I run the cord under the airbox, under the seat, and to the battery? Where do I connect the wires to the battery? I am very serious, I know I sound foolish I just don't want to fork it up. tanks (Message edited by tankhead on January 30, 2008) (Message edited by tankhead on January 30, 2008) |

I did not run mine directly to the battery. I ran it behind the fly screen to the switched power wire. I will let you know what wire I used when I get home from work. |

I did the lazy way (on my S3) - and ran it to the battery and zip-tied the wires to the frame. Running the wires is easier on the tuber. If I recall, the ends of the wires that came with mine already had the eyes crimped on so that they bolted right to the positive and negative terminals on the battery. I made a short loop to take up the extra wire. She cleaned up pretty nice. I think the better way would be like Jerry is talking about above - connecting it to a switched power wire so it doesn't drain the battery when you have the engine turned off - but I have always pulled it out of the mount when parking (paranoid about theft) - so I didn't worry about the battery drain... but I'm just lazy. I have left it mounted overnight in the garage to charge and haven't had a power issue starting the next morning by the way. Man, you are gonna LOVE the Zumo! |

FWIW: You do need to run the Zumo off a switched power lead. It will run down your battery in a short period of time. In a 12 days of not driving my F-150 (with the trailer up-sized battery) a Zumo ran it down flat. Lesson learned. I have a 550 on my 'Bolt but picked up an accy lead back in the tail section for power. Can't remember where or what color it was. Maybe the switched lead for the parking light, IIRC. Even though I wired directly to my battery, any device left to drain the battery is just asking for it. I'm lazy so I always take the thing off my bike - paranoid about theft. I'm sure the one time I park it in the garage for a couple days, and leave the Zumo installed, I'll regret it when I have to jump-start it. |

Yeah it's a real PITA when it's raining and cold to have to jump your TRUCK! I didn't think they would draw that much power but I guess it's constant drain. FWIW, this was with a new battery in my truck which really surprised me. Time4Lunch Neil S. |

I ran mine to the Horn ground and the Headlight Acc wire (Orange and white) for the headlight. If you look at the headlight plug there are four wires, Ground, High Beam, Low Beam and Accessory. The accessory is hot all the time when the key in on or in the accessory position, it doesn't switch with high and low beam or negativly effect you in any way if you completely disconnect it, which is what I did (Unless you really want your headlight on with the key in the ACC position) Rather than leave it on the bike all the time I bought a 12 VDC plug (Similar to a walkman charger etc...) at radio shack so I have a quick disconect. Ram also sells a ball that threads into the Mirror mount hole... |

I mounted the included RAM ball mount on the 2 screws that hold the brake lever bracket to the bar. After a little grinding of the arm, I was able to get the 550 positioned just the way I wanted it. Neil S. |

Borrowed is correct on the wiring. Just checked and mine is an orange and white wire. I never leave it on the bike. not worth the risk in my book. |

FYI the best wire to tap into it the "City light" parking lamp (xbs only?) The reason for this it, if you need to charge something while stepping away from the bike, you can "lock" the bike with the parking lamps on, and continue charging. I do this on a regular basis while fueling up. |

ok so now I know which wires, now I need to know how do I connect them together. Do i splice the wire sheath off and connect the raw wires by spinning the gps wires around them? IS there any type covering to put over the connection like silicone? tanks again |

Can I disconnect the wires from the white electric plastic clips and shove the GPS wires into that with the other Uly wires. |
