I've done 250-300 mile rides on my 12R. Just like anything else it gets easier with practice. 500 mile days are now easy on my Uly. |

660.0 Miles in one day. Pueblo, Co. to Flagstaff, Az. in one day on an S1.....I was hating life. Followed that up the next day with Flagstaff to Las Vegas and on to Laughlin, NV. I was ready to burn the bike and get a plain ticket home..... |

I've done 2800 miles in five days... LA to Seattle area and back with a bunch of riding while I was in Washington state. Lots of cool back roads around Auburn. I'm still on the stock seat, pegs and bars. Just gotta stop and stretch every 100 miles or so, and if you don't keep warm enough you'll suffer for it. |

I used to have a S1. Nice bike, but long rides really was hard on my ass. My XB12S is waaaaaaay much more comfortable. The seat on the S1 is much too narrow IMHO. The XBS is heaven compared to it. |

The most that I have done on my firebolt is about 250 mi. I was ready to get off of it by then. Stopping to stretch every now and then makes a big difference. I think that the only thing that really makes the bike uncomfortable over a long distance, is the lack of available positions. |

i put almost 700 miles on in one day on my 12 when i was in wisconsin for the slimey crud run this year. left from milwaukee, rode around, made it to the slimey crud run, rode around there, then had to make it from where we ended up there to elk hart lake, then from elkhart lake back to milwaukee. ugh i was tired. then spent the next 2 days running at road america on the 1125 and my 9! |

I rode just under 400 miles in a day on my ‘08 XB12R from Clovis, CA to Avila Beach. We took a short ride north along Highway 1 from Avila Beach after having lunch on our way back. My son finished breaking in his ‘08 XB12S on that trip. First long ride for him, he did fine on his bike, but took off his Firebolt pegs after that trip and went back to the stock ones. I did a ride News Years day of about 200 miles after changing to the lower riders pegs. They do make longer rides more comfortable. Just take a break about every 100 miles; you'll want to get gas by the then anyways. Work your way into longer rides as your body gets used to using muscles you forgot you had! I'm almost 55 yrs old, and the Firebolt isn't a problem for me! Good luck, enjoy the ride! ps. I did order the Firebolt Custom seat, and the heated grips before my bike came in. Then installed them just after I got the bike. I don't think I could go very far on the stock seat. (Message edited by xbrfirebolt on January 27, 2008) |

I have tried 4 different seats on my 9S and I still hurt after 3-400-mile days. Maybe I need a new ass? So far I keep switching between the stock CityX seat and my Corbin. The CityX is more cushy, but the Corbin more stable, both hurt after a while. I am going to try and have my Corbin reworked this summer and see if it makes a difference. Perhaps my bike was just meant to go 400-miles in a day? --Sean |

I've done several 300 mile days. The longest I've done in one shot is Miami to Orlando and back in the same day. Not sure of the exact miles, as it was some time ago. But, I would estimate in the area of 800 including all the riding we did up in Orlando that day. |

The longest I ever went on my '04 XB12R was a little over 500 miles in a single day, as part of a 3-day ~1200 mile trip. |

Neither one of my Firebolts would go much past 100 miles before the low fuel light would kick in - so no problems about stopping to stretch every 100 miles or so. That said, I never did more than 100-150 miles in a single day on the 12R. I never got adjusted to the sporty ergos. (Message edited by towjam on January 27, 2008) |

Did a Saddle Sore 1000 (1000 mi/24 hr) and a Bun Burner 1500 (1500 mi/36 hr) summer before last on my 12R. Have Corbin seat, Heli top triple clamp and Zero Gravity sport touring windshield. I found these rides very do-able (there is even time to sleep on these entry-level certifications). The Bun Burner Gold (1500 mi/24 hr) is a significant challenge for me. However I know my limits and I take care to stay safe. Maybe I'll get there this summer and maybe never. I like long rides for their own sake, otherwise I never would have started with these certs. See http://ironbutt.com/ if this sounds like your kind of thing. (Message edited by kurosawa on January 27, 2008) |

Kurosawa, how did the short fuel range work out for you on your Iron Butt rides? I did a SS1000 on my FXDX last summer with no real problems, but I did have to stop about every 140 miles. I think that would make a BBG1500 pretty much impossible for me on my current bike. I would the Firebolt would make it even harder. |

I hear that. I always wanted an R, that is until I rode one and my arms and wrists hurt within a few minutes. When I got on the CityX it was near ergonomic perfection. Just wish the seat was more comfy. --Sean |

Done a ton of 300-400 mile days on stock Firebolts. Longest was Ft Lauderdale to Valdosta Ga, then back next day. Stock seat is very comfy to me, but I have also ridden a non rubber mounted (real) Sportster with a Badlander (vinyl covered 2x4) a whole lot further. Ouch. Coulda been worse, I had a Corbin (vinyl covered concrete) touring seat on my original evo XL1200. |

The Buell select seat I find to be very comfortable on the R. It also has the added advantage of being a little taller, thus increasing the seat to peg distance. It's like lowering the footpegs without sacrificing cornering clearance. |

I can't tell you what I've done mileage-wise in a day on my 12R, but 8-10 hours aren't impossible, and it doesn't keep me from riding the next day. Every weekend in the spring/summer/fall I do at least 3 hours a day, and usually much more. I have a corbin seat, but the stock pegs and bars. |

you only get 100 miles on a tank??? how much fuel do they hold? S1W with manta tank I have gotten over 175 I got more than 100 miles per tank - it was just that the low fuel light would consistently light up at about 100 miles unless I made a point to ride very conservatively (something not easy to do with the Firebolt). I never tested to see actually how far it would go until empty. According to the specs, the tank holds 3.82 US gallons. |

I've done 1000 miles in one night on a Blast. On my S1, I've done 500 mile days twice, and it wasn't that bad. This was before my Carpal Tunnel got bad. XB12R's always made my hands go to sleep immediately. |

Longest I've done on my '12R is 325 miles in one day. I have "S" pegs on it (loooong legs) and used a sheepskin seat cover for that ride. Everything was comfortable except the muscles at the base of my neck/top center of my back from holding my head/helmet up and maybe holding it into the wind (standard height windshield). 'Course it was also the fourth day of a 1400 mile ride with the two previous nights sleeping in a tent on hard ground. Tried my friend's '12R with Helibar risers, Buell comfort seat and taller windscreen, but it didn't seem noticeably different to me. YMMV. HellBuelly J |

I've gone a 100-200 miles at a stretch -- I think my main issue on longer rides is the bars -- risers, barends, and better grips might help (YMMV), but really it seems to be a lot to do with proper hip placement/angle. Once I found the right position it really wasn't any problem to ride, even one hand hanging. Also, the 12's tank is perfect for me to rest against, but I am 5'6"ish so the high pegs and such are not an issue -- plus I crossed over from import trackclones so I am acclimated, so to speak. Now if only the ground was closer... Another reason to consider a S for R tail swap -- the S has a more friendly seating position, add the pegs and you might like the result. I take it you're not considering a 12S, I put the Ulysses bars and 3 inches of tempur foam on mine and have no problems with a 300 mile day. |

I have Heli bars and a Corbin seat on my 12R and have done 300 -400 mile days with no problem. My butt still gets a little antsy towards the end of the day, but it is worse on long straight rides where I am planted in one position for a longer time. If there are turns involved, no problem at all. We shall see come Memorial Day weekend when I take the 1125R on an "Around the rim" ride circling the Grand Canyon. |
