Stupid question ,I don`t have my thinking cap on maybe... are front and rear cylinders interchangeable?

Asking this here with regards to a 2005 1200 sportster which should be the same as the Buells 2005, so say a rear cyl. on a 2005 1200 Sportster should be able to be used on the front of a 2005 1200 Sportster as well?

No,
There is a connecting rod relief notch cast into the rear of the front cyl.

And cast into the front of the rear cyl.

Ahh that makes sense forgot about that down there, However I guess one could cut that relief out on a miller etc....

But thats a good point all the rest being the same then except for that?

I can't remember the pattern for the mating pins, I'd check that too.

Ummmmm, the XB cylinders are identical. The only notches to be found are on pistons, and I think then only on aftermarket long skirt or stroker pistons.

I'm pretty sure the XL cylinders are identical as well.

Hogs,

there are no front or rear cylinders (when speaking of stockers). They are the same. They do not have a notch at the lower end and both oil return holes are bored straight through. So YES You can interchange them.

Regards
Alex
