I read that in my print copy of CW. Another gimmick that won't get too far. Tire changes are a very long and involved process, therefore racing is pretty much out of the question. |

I wish I had one, but Bimota ain't in the budget. I'm impressed with it, very cool design. The front swingarm is beautiful. |

I read that in my print copy of CW. Another gimmick that won't get too far. Hub centre steering is hardly a gimmick, and has been around for a few decades in one form or another. The only thigs thathave held it back so far have been current technology (or lack of) and public perception and conservatism. In theory the system works way better than telescopic forks, but until ecently has sufered from high frictional losses and lack of 'feel'. The Tesi 3D is however a move in the wrong direction by Bimota, and is not as good as the 2D (designed and built for Bimota by Vyrus). As for racing, a hub centre steered Vyrus won the Italian Supertwins championship and there will be one campaigned in the UK Thunderbike series ridden by Phil Read Junior in 2008 and is one of the hot favourites to win it. Removing the front wheel is not a huge issue, and certainly not enough to stop anyone racing one.

So how is the 3D inferior to the 2D it replaces? I will note that I have never even SEEN one in the flesh let alone ridden either one of these machines and quite probably never will. I'm just curious though, the new bike gains radial mount Brembos and it sounds like they've done some work with an eye toward improving handling and ease of manufacture. The only thing I see that the outgoing bike has over the new bike is in the looks department. Trojan could you or anyone else enlighten us (Me) Thanks. |

The new 3D changes the way the steering works slightly over the previous 2D models, which in the opinion of the guys at Vyrus has made the steering feel more vague (a problem that has hampered development of hub centre steering and which was pretty much eliminated on the 2D). Bimota have some slightly different ideas to Vyrus on this, and is one of the reasons that they have now gone their separate ways. I have an in depth article adn interview with Ascario about it somewhere so will try to dig it out for you. Personally I would trust the Vyrus ethos rather than Bimota, as they were the people who got the Tesi to work at all after Bimota gave up on the project a few years ago. |

Complexity for complexities sake exactly my point. Even if changing a tire is not a "major issue" it is still going to take significantly longer than on a standard bike. Perhaps I should have said endurance racing would be out of the question. I guess if the race isn't long enough to require a tire change, then race on. edit: I'm aware that front swingarms have been around for a long time, and I'm also aware there is a reason why we don't see them on the road very often.
