A fellow Buell Racer and friend, Toby Leslie of Alamo City HD/Buell crashed this Sunday while racing his XB9R at Hallett near Tulsa. Unfortunately, is right Tibular and Fibular were broken requiring the insertion of steel rods when the bike fell on his leg while attempting to avoid another fallen rider. According to the corner workers his foot was at “a very unusual angle”. He’s still in Tulsa waiting on the Docs clearance to go home. Lets all wish him well and a quick recovery. Mark CMRA#119.

Peyote – Yes I was racing my XB9 at Hallett with Toby. Hallett is a tight circuit with variable elevation, blind corners, increasing and decreasing radius turns and camber changes - Its well suited to the XB’s but can bite overconfident, inexperienced riders (Not Toby's problem). It has 2 medium length straights but is by no means a brute HP track. I actually lapped 1.5 seconds quicker on the Buell than I did on my R6 last year. It’s a fun track, just take it slowly until you know how the road goes!! They have motorcycle test and tune days every month. Mark edited by englishman119 on July 22, 2003 |

A little backgroung on Mr. Leslie... I first met Toby at OHR in February. It was his very first race weekend, ever. He entered two GT races on Saturday and some sprints on Sunday. Next time I see him is in April at OHR after he'd also run at some of other tracks the CMRA frequents. He was MUCH improved. The leaders in MW Sportsman and some of the LW classes are having to contend with a rookie Buell racer on their heels. Last time I looked, he's now running all three GT races (timed 30 minute events)on Saturdays where they are run and like ten sprint races (8 laps) on Sunday, in the Texas Summer heat! That is impossible as far as I'm concerned, but he is doing it, running his XB9R trying to wear it out between its duty on the street. He's been on the podium more than once and is in contention for a couple class championships. But damn the luck! That SUCKS!! Toby you skin headed tobacci dipping maniac! Heal up fast! Expect to see you again at OHR on 9/27-9/28! I suppose the Firebolt is fine and dandy? Mark, Thanks a bunch for the heads up! If you have contact info, please post it here. I spent a week probably in the same Hospital back in '99. Pretty nice as hospitals go. They dispense Tylox like it was candy. A good thing when you are in serious pain. Blake (CMRA #131AM) |

Guys, thanks for all the messages of support for my racing buddy, I know he’ll appreciate it when he gets home later today. Blake – Yes, Toby’s bike was OK. Just needs a footrest and front brake lever and its good to go. I guess Toby’s leg helped brake the bikes fall.....Ouch!!!!! As you say he has improved big time this summer and still rides about 10 sprint races on a Sunday which is a killer in the Southern summer heat. My limit is 4 and that’s pushing my body too far at times. Perhaps I should stop smoking the cigarettes and suck them instead like Mr. T. The email address I have for him is slowby@satx.rr.com Thanks again everyone. I hope it will only be a few weeks till he’s back on the track with me. Mark. edited by englishman119 on July 23, 2003 |

BUT I HAVE BEEN RACING #133 OF PRODUCTION AND COULD'NT PASS UP THE OFFER. MAYBE ILL SWITCH TO RIDE #133 ON THE STREET TO RETAIN THE VALUE.
