Hi there, I've finally decided to buy an XB12 after riding japanese sportbikes for a few years. My question is this: is there a big difference in the 04, 05, and 06 XB12s? Most importantly, I read somewhere that the 06 transmission is different. I've heard that the firebolt transmission is a bit clunky and I was wondering if spending the extra money on an 06 model would be worthwhile. Any help or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks! |

I've got over 40,000 trouble-free miles on my 2004 XB12R, and I don't find the trans to be "clunky" at all. You might feel that way if you jump off a CBR and right onto an XBR, but it's just the nature of the beast. You can find great deals on well loved and cared for 2004 XB12's. Of course, there are deals on 2006's as well. Whatever floats your boat. |

The real big difference is in the 08 but besides that.. 05 brings us the 43mm forks. 06 brings us air through the top of the airbox above the gas filler with the inner airbox having air intake slits on one side, recalibrated ecm for the newer air intake path, new stiffer swingarm, new stronger belt, helical gear tranny, stronger oil drive gear, 07 basically the same except inner airbox is slitted on both sides I believe and the ecm is again recalibrated for it. Not 100% sure about the 07 though. |
