They made me do it. I put some new front blinkers on it last weekend. Much cleaner looking if I do say so myself. Last night I took the cheese grater off and took it to work for some TLC. I chopped it off and made a little bracket for the license plate. The plate bracket will be temporary until I get a nice piece from Dark Horse Moto. I had to cut the cheese grater off though so that I had an excuse to get the clear alternatives led tail light with intergrated blinkers. I actually lost my old camera at a big bonfire and I finally got around to getting a new one. I just wanted to take some pics of the bike. I also put on the bar end mirrors and painted the middle of the chin spoiler semi flat black. I finally removed the belt guards and cut the down the hugger to a fraction of its stock size. Since I decided to put it away until road conditions enable safe riding I am slowly doing the 10,000 mile service. I have the service manual but I wanted to ask a few questions still. When changing the primary fluid it says to fill it to bottom of clutch diaphragm spring. Is that upright or on the stand? From what I can tell the Mobil1 20/50 V-Twin should be ok for the primary, correct? Do I have to remove the forks to drain the fluid? If I do I think I will just have the dealer do it. That scares me because they were unable to balance my wheels when the Pirellis were put on. The ignition timing seems like something the dealer should do. I do not have the electronics to take the readings. Is there a way for me to do it without the specialized equipment? I want to do my own TPS reset but again I lack the correct equipment. Is it expensive to get the proper stuff to do my own TPS resets? Thanks for looking and the help. I will try to get a good daylight pic or two on Saturday. I think I will also post a picture of when I bought it so we can compare how much better it looks with just a few simple mods. |

looks good first things first, get a factory service manual, by far the best tool you can get. until then, Primary fluid should be checked with the bike level, it should take just shy of a quart. That V-twin oil should work, just stay away from the gear oil. Also HDs formula+ is the factory spec for that bike, I think. I am not sure on the forks but I will be listening for the answer because mine need to be done as well. ditto on the wheel balancing, I had a shop I use to work for mount the tires and they could not balance the front, it has not been an issue yet though. For ignition timing and TPS checks, download ECMSPY free software, then build or buy the cable (about 50 bucks) you will be able to check trouble codes, perform all TPS resets, and check base timing, then if you get creative you can start playing with fuel maps, haha have fun |

LED turn signals DO look much nicer aesthetically, but from my experiences out on the road, they're dangerous. And that's from a cager perspective. They simply DO NOT show up on sunny days. Might as well not even turn them on. Nice bike, BTW... it's my favorite color! ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on January 18, 2008) |

Not all LED's are created equal
I run these as running lights and flash one off for turn signals. If they don't catch your attention, you better have a red & white cane sitting along side your seeing-eye dog on the front seat! Neil S. |
