Comment was a positive for both events so why the negativity.
What Buells are made for.
Buells are at their best in tight quarters where more powerful or more comfortable bikes can not match the handling and low end exit power of the Buell. In all other motorcycling applications other tools can be quite a bit better especially in racing and bar hop posing. On the tight Appalachian roads around Suches the Buells shine brighter than in any other riding application. It's not about all out speed since the roads are too tight for missiles like open class sport bikes which would have a hard time getting out of first gear. The Buell can traverse the landscape with easy where more powerful sport bikes would be a handful at the same pace. The Buell is made for the tight stuff and no where else in the world are the tight roads as fun and plentiful as the Appalachian mountains. Suches is only one example of these mountain roads, but an excellent one. Plus it is the only site where there are reoccurring Buell events in the Appalachian mountain range.
I am in no way putting down Home Coming, its the home of Buell. A great place to ride to and enjoy the sights. A few good roads around East Troy, great! But look at the maps and see that Suches is a target rich environment for riding. A totally different event than Home Coming. I'd compare Home Coming more to a bike rally like Daytona. March Badness is not about riding to an event as it is riding at the event. I do not mean HD parade style, I mean riding some of the best roads in North America.
Home Coming = Come and see.
March Badness = Come and ride.
I am not saying one is better than the other just different. I wish I could do both but March Badness is on the calendar every year for me.

Wrong!!!! Its about the ride Home its about riding this area,its about the racing heritage,its about the enthusiasts,its about a track day with riders from all over the world.
M2nc I don't know if you have been here for Homecoming or not.... doesn't sound like you have and if you have you slept through it. We have something to offer for everyone. I'd like to come to MB. But one I have no time for it this year. You say you are not putting Homecoming down but infact you are telling us what it is and you don't know what it is, |

Home Coming is no secret. I see what is there and qualify it as Buell's Bike Week.
"It's about the ride Home" for you maybe not me. It means miles of slab which endurance riding is a kick in its own right but no where near the ride quality of the mountain roads at Suches. "Its about the racing heritage","Its about the enthusiasts" like I said RIDE AND SEE. "Its about a track day" Great! but I can do a track day here on one of the best facilities around without 20hrs of Slab.
What I can not do here is ride the mountain roads that are in the Appalachian mountains. That is as exclusive as it gets and to me its motorcycling nirvana. Home Coming will never match Badness on ride factor. March Badness with never match the history and diversity of Home Coming. Apples and Oranges. Like the fruits I like both, and so I am not putting down Home Coming because the riding is better at Suches and the main attraction. I am just expressing the differences. No negativity is coming from me.

Homecoming is the celebration of Buell still being here so we can ride them to MB and the likes, meet the factory crew, and watch races. I am sure yall ride, but not like in the mountains.
I stated in my post that I am sure there is riding, but again, IT IS NOT THE MOUNTAINS. I like riding all over, but my favorite place besides a track is the N. Ga mountains.
Dude, don't tell me to STFU.
Ok, fine, I was off key there.
Didn't know only mountain folk had the best riding.
The only thing better is a race track!
Not putting down the MB thing either. Just seems like a lot of you have perception that Homecoming doesn't include riding. Plenty of nice roads around Wisconsin. Just a little harder to find.OK. Make that a lot harder. My Mom lives in Georgia, so I know the roads are nice.
You even state yourself the roads are hard to find, At MB there are stuffed down your throat.
Homecoming is about a lot more than riding, I get that, and I know yall are gonna ride.
So why is it every year somebody has to compare the two events?? THE TWO BIGGEST BUELL EVENTS IN THE COUNTRY and people are pissing and moaning about one getting more posts....... |

Disclaimer; If you take my post wrong, oh well.
I have never been to Homecoming, but I have been to numerous "bike rallies", such as Daytona, Sturgis and othes. IN MY OPINION Homecoming APPEARS to be a "rally" type event, based on the way it is promoted (schedules, mini-events around the area, factory tour, vendors, TON of people, etc). DON'T get me wrong. I am not complaining about this. I would LOVE to go to Homecoming EVERY year, but there are many things that conspire to keep me away. I am trying DILIGENTLY to get there this year!
Homecoming is not better than Badness, it's just different.
I have been to March Badness (a few times). The way it is promoted, it's like going to your friend's house, only with Demo rides. Oh, and possibly the best roads compacted into a rather small geographical area anywhere. I can camp at T.W.O. and be in a series of tight twisties in under a minute, in three different directions, all of which will keep me twisting and turning for at LEAST 15-20 minutes!!
March Badness is not better than Homecoming, it's just different.

everybody is welcome to attend MBV and Buell Homecoming(25th Anniv.) you will probably have a much better time than reading what has happened to this thread!!
if you get the chance-ride more,enjoy life.

I have been to Daytona Bike Week, Homecoming 24, and MBIV.
You are loosing sight of the fact that Buells are just plain fun. Riding with and hanging out with Buell people is just plain fun. Meeting BadWebbers and Buell manufacturing staff is just great. Really good people all.
I rank the situation like this;
1.Daytona Bike Week(and Panama City's Thunder Beach) are a bling parade riders paradise. Super-slab it there, ride five mph in the perpetual HD glitz parade and excessive heat, super-slab it back home. Score = tired, not impressed = eh. Going back for more = NO.
2. Homecoming 24th. Super-slab, met up with Ohio BadWebbers, toured across Michigan, stopped at many points of interest. Crossed
Lake Michigan on the Speed Fairy, met up with more BadWebbers from NY and the North East. Motel in East Troy met many more BadWebbers. Did mention riding with what is now a lot of BadWebbers?
Got a special escort to Bads1's place so that we might be able to partake in the festivities and not worry about the 20 mile ride back to the motel.
On to the Factory enmasse. Met a whole lot more Buell enthusiasts. Went to class with Erik, Abe, and Court. Rode on to Uke's where Buell history is held. And Bubba smoked up the place with a good show!
On to the Road America Buell special event. Hospitality from Buell everywhere. Two test ride set ups. One for the roads and the other set up on the go-kart track(tight twisties and almost no limits). Then tour Road America main track after watching races. Wolfridgerider and I got a special tour of the hospital facilities(nice set-up). Up early in the am and super-slab enduro home.
A great time had by all! Going back this year = You bet!
3. MBIV. Well I live in East Tennessee, so the twisties of Suches are very on line with where I ride every weekend. Having said that, meeting with fellow BadWebbers in Maryville, then riding on to the Dragon, where we met more fellow BadWebbers, became just a great ball of fun. On to the store at the other end of the Dragon and even more BadWebbers up from Suches campground.
Over the Cherohala and on to Suches(the long way). Arrived after dark to set up tents. Up the next am for a great breakfast and meet another whole crapload of BadWebbers. On to the twisties and back for dinner. Then a warm friendly party around one of many campfires!
We left out Saturday instead of staying on to Sunday due to a bad storm heading in. Rode the slab twisties back. A great time, truly fun roads, great people.
Buelltoberfest, you bet! Mostly the same set up, more new and different BadWebbers. Total ball of fun twisties and campfire party.
Both great events. Going back = you bet! |
