Go to H/D web sight. They have a C/S # that will get you to Buell. Expect at least a one hour wait on the phone. This is a copy and web address of the spot. To contact the Motor Company directly, please write: Harley-Davidson Customer Service 3700 W. Juneau Avenue Milwaukee, WI 53208 To speak with a Harley-Davidson customer service representative call (414) 343-4056. Sorry, we're unable to receive e-mail at this time. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/U tility/hd_contact_us.jsp?locale=en_US I had the same thing happen to me on my 03 XB9R. I got fed up with the run around and got a new primary cover. There are a few dealers that will help you out with the cost on a new primary. I really think that mine was done prior to me reciving it. I think the person who had he bike before me had tightened the clutch ramp too tight. If you need any help with where I got mine PM me. (Message edited by p47b on January 11, 2008) |

Oh yeah, You can do this. Just make shure to get the gaskets for it or you will have a mess on your hands. It will take about Two hours for your first time. (Message edited by p47b on January 11, 2008) |

Make sure to use the proper torque and sequence when tightening the primary cover bolts. 80 to 110 in-lbs (9-12.4Nm)

Well good news I turns out that buell had a recall on my part, the problem is that only previous years are on the 'recall list' , and my 05 is not. All I have to do is simply call buell and say my year also has the exact same problem the as others, and hopefully I dont get too much trouble with getting the OK. Exact same breakage in my primary case/cover at about 14,000 miles. Dealer replaced cover under warranty with no questions asked, $0 out the door. Seems like a weak point in the casting. Does anyone know if the design has been changed on later units? jim |

I would say yes from the older case to newer. I did not get a thickness from the old case but the new case looked to be a little thicker. What looked to be during the milling process it might be off toward the front of the case. It just looked thinner. |

Um... maybe this is a dumb question, but... Under what circumstances is the part failing? I mean, is it happening after removing it and reinstalling? Or is it just cracking on its own, or what? Mine's been fine all this time, but I'm getting ready to do some work on the bike and I am wondering what's in store... pictures would be helpful. (Message edited by pwnzor on January 15, 2008) |

And what recall covers this? Numbers, please? This is new to me, although the XBRR was beefed significantly in the clutch ball-and-ramp area. |

Ochoa, Well yours shouldn't have been the first they've seen. Took it in 11/05/07 and got it back on it by 11/12/07. I did'nt hear about a recall list. Those are my short list of roads as well. This summer I'm going to try some longer routes further away from home towards bandera and luckenbach. I'm in Bastrop but come into Austin daily for work. Pwnzor- I pulled the clutch in and there wasn't any. Basically the top of the "keyhole" of the clutch inspection cover area sheared off. never got a good reason why it happened. Just one of those things that did happen. Austin |

you see that long screw? well when that it tightened too much, it puts extra stress/pressure on the 'lip' of the case cover. the screw just needs to be hand tightened, if I believe so . . .

I had not tightened my clutch up since I had it. It just started slipping a little and when I had gotten the bike from the dealership it finally popped on the way home. No clutch. The mechanic that worked on it did not over tighten the clutch ramp on mine but that does not guarantee that the person that had it before me did or did not. |

Actually it should not be hand tight when finished adjusting everything. First you loosen the cable so the lever is floppy...then you tighten until it stops...and that is with just your finger tips slipping a big. Then you are supposed to back it off a bit (I believe a quarter turn) before you put the nut/spring dealio on it under the clutch inspection cover...finally you adjust the clutch cable last. |
