I've been looking around for saddle bags and came across the sport saddles with tail bag. I am just wondering if anyone else has ever put them on a firbolt and how well did they work? I'm not to big on the quality of buells tank bag unfortunatly so,, I didn't really care to look at their saddles.. Here is a link to what the cortech bags look like. http://www.sporttour.com/luggage/cortech/CortechSp ortSBColors.jpg |

I might be mistaken, but I believe Cortech makes the saddle and trunk bags for Buell. That being said, I have had the Trunk Bag for about 12,000 miles. It has been invaluable. I mounted mine to home made bars that mounted to the Ventura System. Put it level with the ground and the rear pillion was still open. This really about the best in action shot I have:

I've used these bags on my Firebolt with impressive results. They complement the lines of the bike well and are pretty roomy. |

Tourmaster/Cortech products are of excellent quality. I have been using the same Tourmaster tank bag and saddlebags for over 17 years now, and the zippers are all still in perfect condition, the map window is clear and not turning yellow, and the foam cushioning is still soft and pliable. Tourmaster/Cortech products get my double thumbs-up rating!

Here is a few pics of my XBS. one is with stock tail but relocated signals and the others are with a modified tail that I did. Cant fit a passenger with them mounted but plenty of room for myself. Sorry the photos were taken at night so not the best quality.

I have the full Cortech Sport 3 piece rear set for my Ss. They hold a reasonable amount for a few day trip and have held up pretty well for a year and a half and probably 10,000 miles. The only drawbacks I found are: they leave black rubber on the seat supports (I'd sew some cloth over the neoprene padding), they hang a little low because the straps across the seat don't really adjust small enough (don't have passenger pegs up or they rub on the bottom of the bags), they hit the turn signals when you try and put them back far enough (no real damage and you can use an integrated LED tail light), they slide forward too easily when you brake (and don't let me sit back enough to stretch out on long rides which would be worse on an S), there is no support to hold the bags out with the passenger pegs removed (but the bike looks so much better w/o the rear peg supports). I've hauled tools, a laptop, clothes, a six pack, etc... and still feel they are the best temporary choice for bags; I don't like the looks of a ST with hard bags so I want them off when not using them. I got the whole set for about $150 at a BMW dealer. |

I forgot to add my 2 cents about the bags. as "Mikemax" stated they do tend to ride forward on you but i solved that by making a mount on the rear tail for the straps to attach to. I suggest leaving the passenger pegs on for support. As far as room for me there is plenty for stretching, you just have to mount them further back. Plenty of room, i haven't even opened the expandable part yet and that was on a three day trip. For the money they are the best looking and perfect size. Good Luck. |

Hey, thanks for the reviews and pics guys. Sounds like I just need to stop off and mount a set up at the bike dealers down the road. course,, I have to wait for this Friggin snow and ice to get off my street first. I ain't sure but I am thinking the width of an R tail is a tad wider than an S tail, and relocating or replacing with aftermarket blinkers ain't no big deal to me. We just got a new "CycleGear" store in town and they have a nice selection. Now I am exited, I won't need a backpack on the 300-400 miles a day trips I do. That will be so much nicer. Keep the reveiws coming,, specialy if someone has them on an R tail. as it is, snow won't be melting off my road till late Jan. |

I'm not sure that it will be usable with a cheese grater eliminator and integrated turn signal/taillight as I plan to have soon. With just the chopped tail, the turn signals keep the bags from sliding off the back of the seat and provide a place for the rear bag straps to attach. I'll probably have to rig up a frame of some sort to use the bags once I do that. |
