I have had a couple problems that a lot of people have had, Kickstand, Wiring..etc. I notice that when there are several owners with the same problems, I tend to have the same later down the road. How common are front Isolator Failures? How common are stator failures? I intend on leaving my bike as a stock commuter. Is there a list of common failures on this site? I often find myself looking at peoples profiles and doing my own research. |

20k miles and my front isolator and stator are fine. I lost a front exhaust bolt (could have been my fault), and that caused me to break an exhaust stud. I also needed to replace clutch and throttle cables. Other then that, my basically stock bike seems solid. |

The main reason I posted it was not to complain or start any debates. I was trying to see if there was an "expected" baseline for failures. If the avg stator lasts people 25,000 miles...I would replace it at that interval, if mine had not yet failed. I was tossing up selling my Buell only a few months after I bought it. Now I know they are fairly easy to work on, and look forward to my maintenance free belt drive. |

10k+ miles I've had a recurring problem with lights on my xb12r after driving in the rain, but the dealership covered them both time. |

I see you have a XB12R. I really don't think you have to worry too much about expected failures. I am only a sample of one, but no failures at 20K. You mentioned stator failures. It has been discussed to some degree in the past and it seems that there is a link between that failure and the use of Mobile 1. Just keep an eye on bolt tightness. A shop manual is useful to have. Other than that, ride and enjoy. |

I know of one friend on a xb12s that bought his in early 03'. After about 28,000 miles he has lost some of 2nd gear and third due to tranny issues. Keep in mind that about 26,000 miles of his riding were drag racing, seriously. Some could say that's unacceptable, but I think its pretty tough for a bike that wasnt meant to drag race. If your worried about it breaking down just ride it daily-driver style, many people have found these bikes to be bullet-proof under the right conditions. some have found issues but (speaking from experience) I usually find issues with things I have done wrong with the bike. Just ride it, nothing more you can do until something shows wear or breaks. Buell's do need to be tipped back from time to time tho, my doesnt seem to run right unless I loft my front tire for at least a couple hundred feet each ride. |
