I have had both.

First I had a nine, now a twelve. Both had K+N, Race Ecm and an original Drummer muffler.

I weigh about 240 lb.s in full gear.

Bottom line: I preferred the Nine for tootling around the village, but in the twisties, I found I go better on the Twelve.

There are several reasons for this, in my case at least, the stronger and wider torque curve makes it easier for me when giving it a bit of stick. In addition my particular Twelve has a longer wheelbase and Ohlins suspension. Probably the biggest reason is another 10,000 miles of seat time.

Does that mean I can eat Nines down deal gap?

Short answer: NO. As Glitch has often observed: it's the Indian, not the arrow.

Bottom line: the Nine is a great bike around town and in the twisties. If you are over 200 lb.s you might prefer a Twelve.

That is all the more true if you plan to ride two up alot, and ride primarily on the interstate's where the twelves higher gearing is an advantage.

The nine is a lot smoother at idle, and a bit smoother until 4000 rpm when the twelve smoothes out.

With the 1125R's beginning to hit the streets, used Buells will be even a better value than is normally the case. The 2003 models have 99% of the Buell experience, at an unbeatable price.

Twelve has a longer wheelbase

Excuse me but unless you are talking about the 12Ss, the wheelbase is the same between a 9 and 12.

G_J's 12 does have a longer wheelbase due to the Hal's chain conversion that was installed
in his swingarm.

I've ridden 2 up on my 9 at approximately 350 lbs and she pulled just fine. Much, much, much better than my S1. Plus, she handled great without tweaking the suspension whereas 2 up on the S1 in the twisties makes me want to curl up in the fetal position as suck my thumb.

How about this analogy, Tim:

Riding 2 up on the S1 is about as pleasant as the Tacoma Aroma. (I was stationed at McChord)
