Stretch, It has nothing to do with being sensitive. It's bad business practice for a company that is trying to make a name with a brand new bike coming out. If Buell stands behind Anon's post, and they feel his words can speak for the company then I WILL take my business some where else. Learn when it's best to speak, and when it's best to just shut up and let things slide. Well, there we have it. All of a sudden, we think you know who anonymous really is. You're inferring anonymous is somebody. For all I know, you posted that. I have seen the same response come up in another thread. Had nothing to do with this. But you infer. For all I know, anonymous is Fred the freakin janitor, who has a gay obsession thing going on with Abe, and diversity has kept him out of a job. Look, we already told you. We don't care if he farted on your picture, ran over your dog, and got your sister pregnant. If you want a RSS, then get one. We don't care. If you want to go buy another bike. don't let the door hit you in the ass. Still don't care. You can buy a bike from Bob the Sumo if you want. Still disinterested. You can even get a t-shirt printed up, saying " Wah, somebody ( I don't know who ) told me to F*** Off, and it ruined my day!" |

Oh no the attack of the elitist chain gang. Just adding a little fuell to the fire.... WHO CARES? If painting your bike pink and adding a viberider to the riders part of seat makes you happy.... then go for it! You know what really pisses me off? Abe, (more than likely) could out ride me/most of us, with his right hand tied behind his back..... See ya at Homecoming. And Abe, If you read this (fat chance) could ya dumb down your class this coming year. I felt like a tard after it was over. Ya know what I'm say'n... twist throttle.. go faster... Hot exhaust burn fingers... Thanks in advance... |

There is a very thin veil between "corporate" and "consumer". Here, we're all consumer. We covet the comments of those who are "corporate". In order to receive those comments, corporate must become human (consumer) in order to interact with us here in "consumer" world. When they become human, they act like humans. They are real people with personalities, likes, dislikes, passions, and mode of speech. I would rather be cussed blue by Abe and know that he is a real person giving me his passionate viewpoint on a subject than to get a cold, dispassionate corporate line. You can't ask for corporate to post here and then bitch when they seem like everyday people. I'm sure their individual "suspensions" are finely tuned to maximize handling, but I'm absolutely sure that Erik and Abe put their pants on line leg at a time. I'm sure that when Erik or Abe smacks their thumbs with a hammer that they let fly some colorful language. Grow some thicker skin and quit crying and moaning about how their answers are unbefitting "corporate".
What do you want them to be, Honda? If you want a scoop, buy a damn scoop. If you don't, don't. If you want Buell to tell you why they didn't put one on there, don't complain when the answer isn't what you wanted. |

What do you want them to be, Honda? Honda has EXCELLENT customer service, always has. They've never told me to F*** off, even though I may have given them ample reason to do so. Anything that even resembles a warranty issue is handled on the spot. Harley dealers, on the other hand, have basically told me to F*** off by damaging my bike, overcharging me for services or not performing them at all, and treating me like a leper. As a result, Al at American Sport Bike gets every dollar I spend on my Buell, and I'll probably never buy another new one until they have a separate dealership. When I buy my new cruiser, it will be Japanese. That is unless I find a nice S3T. I love Buells, and I grant that there are good dealers out there, it's just that I have not encountered them anywhere but online. The fact that my headlights haven't been recalled is a moot point. My opinion is that they should have been. I solved my own problem, cheaply. My lights are good.... for now. When they fade again, I'll search ebay for another deal, but if I don't find one like last time, I'll opt for something else. Most likely I'll try and squeeze an 1125R front end on my XBR, I really like the look of those lights. I'll order the parts from Al, when they become available. tangent, anyone? |

Thank you Ft_bstrd for your post ("If you want a scoop, buy a damn scoop. If you don't, don't. If you want Buell to tell you why they didn't put one on there, don't complain when the answer isn't what you wanted.") There are many anonymous posters that come here, and hopefully they add value. There has been a number of times that we have been strongly discouraged against participation, believe me! You said it far better than the anony post that irritated people, but I think that was the gist of his/her post. It's your bike, and you can do what you want to it. Some things you do may ruin your warranty, and some might make the bike handle badly, etc. We try to warn against those. But if you like something, it's your choice. It shouldn't mean that if we didn't put that accessory on we are stupid or liars, and when some Buell employees read statements indicating we are, they get cranky. Look at the photo of the 1125 production line start. That is 99% of us (a few aren't there because they were busy elsewhere). So the relationships we have among each other are close and personal, and we knbow how tiny and fragile we are and how every one of us counts towards getting the best possible product. Now I happen to know that the RSS was researched several times, once specifically at Erik's directive, but there is an issue with it we cannot get around that actually occurs in our test regimen. That is what Abe is describing. Is it possible our test regimen may miss a few things? Yes, we are always learning more, but it is always about something we didn't see in testing. An example would be a variance in quality from a supplier that teaches us we have to inspect their products constantly because the ones we tested aren't the same as what we got for production. But when we find something that is an issue, we cannot build with it, no matter how attractive it might be in other ways. Hope that helps. Probably not. More flames will probably come. Geez. Hopefully Abe won't get discouraged by the comments against him; he's only human, though! |

There, was that so hard? If anonymous one had said it like that we all would be having cake and ice cream right now. Im going to go out to the garage right now and see if my radiator from my f-150 will fit on the front of my bike so i can take all the scoops off. |

Hello Anonymous Researchers and scientist all the time challenge each others work and it's not an insult or F'ing words exchanged between people. Most of the time better work is because of this. Now You, I said Abe's comments to date have no evidence by reports or posts on the internet ... hense bias work by my esimate or IMHO. Insted of coming up with a post saying lets say ... the tempature sensor of the engine is fooled by the RSS..." Something or anything objective on why RSS is not a good idea, you just repeat what was said before and start say F---U. You sit behind 'Anon' without anything to who you are.... who are you to say defensive sh*t. Are you really with Buell? If you are going to post give a regular post or give real objective answers. But keep sh#t words to yourself! Chas |

Chas, The first post, yours I believe, questioning whether Abe was telling the truth or "towing the company line" is enough to put anyone on the defensive. I don't know if you are a long time "lurker", but your profile indicates you are FNG. The RSS issue has been going since the XBs hit the market. So that runs 6 model years of very heated debate. If you are new, the full tilt response from the Anony would seem swatting a gnat with a bazooka. From a historical perspective, it was mild compared to some of the RSS jousting that has occurred. Consider the answer psychological baggage from wounds unhealed. Accept that the Anony posts are legitimate. Blake and others vet these to verify identity as legitimate and "out" them when they are not. I don't know if you've searched ALL the history of the RSS question. If not, you should. Historical perspective changes the color of this discussion. |

Pwnzr, I agree completely with your statements. You are ABSOLUTELY correct! My comment was in reference to speaking with Honda "corporate". They are a monolith. Unapproachable. They DO NOT listen to the market AT ALL. Seen their model line-up lately. Unless you want a CBR, you ain't gettin' jack. Where is the DS? Where is the naked? Where is the SM? Ain't in the US. If they took a little time checking into the bulletin boards and interacting more regularly, they might have a better feel for the market pulse. The dealers, though, are first rate for sure. You are correct on that point. Buell dealers are not as consistent (I hear understatement music). I have use of a dealership, Bumpus HD, that is as close to a Honda dealer as you could hope to get. It is absolutely top notch. I wish the service area of EVERY Buell dealer was a good as Bumpus and others here. They will be. We are in the midst of something really cool. We will either get to see a company implode, OR we will get to see something blossom from an enterprise in a barn into on of the great American success stories. Time will tell. I'm rooting for the latter! |

Honda told me F*&k you. I was working with a local church (Vineyard Central in Cincinnati) doing Nypum (National Youth Program Using Minibikes). I was going about every other weekend and training inner city kids to safely ride motorcycles. Honda supplied the bikes, City Cure was the parent organization. We did this for about a year. Most of my time was spent either herding cats (those kids were serious trouble if not watched closely) or pushing dead XR-50's up a hill to a primitive garage to try and get them running again. I didn't actually ride very much. Well, somebody at Honda corporate got wind that City Cure actually: 1) Believes in Jesus. 2) Was trying to get these kids plugged in to communities of believers. None of this "give money to poor people and hope they go away"... we wanted to be a part of these kids lives and have them part of ours. There was no condition of attending church or accepting Jesus to participate, just an invitation to be a part of authentic community if they ever wanted it. Well, Honda didn't like the "Jesus" part, and threatened to pull the bikes if we did not take all references to God off the City Cure website. NYPUM was just a tiny part of what City Cure did, it is a missionary group. So naturally they replied "we can't do that" and explained that there was no conditions on the kids for participation (other then the rules NYPUM has about most of the same stuff the church teaches, just without the Jesus bit). Honda had the truck there 30 days later on the nose, loaded up every last bike, and took them away. Thats a big, impersonal, corporate, two fingered "F*^% You" if I ever heard one. On the Buell note... I worked at GE Aircraft engines (Evendale) for a few years building test cells for Jet engines. If you have flown on a Boeing 777 with the GE 90 engine, you flew on engines I designed systems to test... including the Daniels Gas Chromatograph inputs. Asking the right question, much less getting the right answer, is staggeringly complex. Getting the right answer is even harder. Now I design security for web sites. We have fantastically complicated infrastructures. It is far easier to design and implement the feature then it is to figure out how to effectively and meaningfully test it. It is not unusual for us to spend twice as much on testing as we do on coding. Every part effects every other parts, and we find "stable islands" where we can fix things. One change can cause all sorts of downstream issues. Many different systems come together for the first time near the moment of production, and you change any of them at your peril. There are no simple problems anymore... much less simple answers, especially if you are not already an expert in the field. Individual bikes in individual climates with particular goals represent a FAR simpler problem then the factory has to solve however, so it is very likely you can optimize to some particular case. Knock yourself out! I did. Many changes I made from stock were mistakes, and I put it back. A few were improvements (illegal, but useful). Those stayed... at least until I get the ticket. |

Chase, I've said it once. I'll say it again. You are WAY out of line. What you posted amounts to calling Abe a liar, nothing less. You are WAY out of line if you think that is acceptable on this forum. I was hoping that you had the character to admit when you were wrong and out of line. You can still do that, or you can continue defending your unfortunate commentary. One of those approaches will gain you respect with folks who's respect is worth gaining. What do you say? Abe is telling the absolute unadulterated truth. Engineering analysts who don't aren't worth spit. Abe is one of the best out there. His work speaks for itself. Come on and give the man his props. When it comes to engineering, he is as honest as they come. |

Ok, that's it, I wasn't going to say anything, but NOW I AM!!!! Everybody keeps saying "towing" the line... it's not "TOWING", it's "toeing" dammit!!! Get it straight already!!!!! And BTW I don't think Abe was "toeing" anything. And, I quote: "The intent of the right side air scoop is to get better airflow over the fuel rail when the fan is on (at low speed). Getting proper airflow to the fuel rail is important in order to prevent vapor-lock during extended idle or parade duty in hot ambient temperatures. It turns out that if this scoop has too big of an opening, the airflow is not directed to the fuel rail as effectively. In our testing, a right side air scoop created as a mirror image of the left hurt fuel rail temperatures at idle."} Sounds like an honest guy to me. IMHO to say someone is "toeing the line" doesn't necessarily mean they're lying, it could mean that they believe the company's opinion about a subject. However, I certainly understand Blake's reaction to the statement. I just don't see how anyone could think he was toeing the line here. edit: Toe the line = — toe the line or toe the mark : to conform rigorously to a rule or standard (Message edited by pwnzor on November 25, 2007) |

Anyone research Harley's numbers lately? The dealerships are seriously hurting, and corporate cannot even get bikes out on time. Something's happening, and it doesn't look good. I hope for Buell's sake they can get out BEFORE it's too late. |

Wouldn't it be funny if a tiny little bike company that was a pet project of someone became the instrument for HD to move into a new direction? I would love to see the day when cruisers comprised 50% of HOG sales revenue. (We'll need to come up with a new hand signal. ) I could see an 1190cc version of the Helicon as well as a 750cc version. I'd love to see a new mono to replace the Blast ala 690 Duke. I'd love to see a complete line of dirt bikes. All of this in addition to the XB line being retained as a "Sport Classic" line. I would love to see the XB engine continue to be refined. Wouldn't a counterbalancer to take out some of the vibrations be cool? What about a clean slate 72* air cooled based off of the Helicon platform? What about a refined Tuber retro? I believe Rocket would wet his pants for one of those. I would love to see 15-20 different models of Buells available. I'd love to see one of each represented on every Buell dealer floor if not more than one. I'd love to see a full line of Buell accessories managed like you'd have a Ralph Lauren section of a department store with specific floor plans designated by home office and maintained by the home office. (As a former Store Manager for Abercrombie and Fitch and part owner of a children's clothing company, let me know when you are ready to coordinate that effort. I'll be your guy for merchandising.) You don't get to see something develop right before your eyes very often. I believe this is one of those occasions. (Message edited by ft_bstrd on November 25, 2007) |

I have a question. AND NO, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A WISE GUY. Abe states in his column, "The left side scoop was shaped to direct air to the rear cylinder and is very effective in doing that." Maybe something's changed from 03, but my scoop directs air straight up into my airbox. I have a cold air induction cover and I can see the road right down the scoop (I de-snorkled). How's that air making it to the cylinder? |
